Have to plan two weddings, help!

Yana, on March 16, 2022 at 7:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

Hi everyone, I am in a bit of a panic mode. I got engaged a few months ago but have not started looking into wedding planning until a few days ago, and I'm overwhelmed. My Fiance and I live in Boston, but I'm originally from Italy (where my parents, friends, and relatives are), and he's originally from Maine. I initially thought to plan a small wedding (about 70 people) somewhere in Maine in July 2023; however, after speaking with family and friends, I realized almost no one from my side would be able to make it to the wedding in the US. I am now looking into making a wedding in Maine (60 people) and a tiny wedding in Italy (30 people), but I'm overwhelmed by costs and logistics because we'll be paying for most of it. Has anyone experienced this, and do you have any recommendations?

Figure out that budget for both weddings. Can you stay with family when your in Italy? Does your family from Italy cook? If yes you could do a potluck wedding where people bring in food. Can family in Italy give suggestions on cheap wedding venues, like parks or historical sites? I’d still suggest getting a good photographer for Italy since your going out of your way to plan to weddings, wanna bring back something from both. Smiley smile
Also as well for the Maine one, can you stay with family and 70 people you might want to do caterer, but of course if it’s to expensive, potluck or bring in cheaper filling meals for guests. If you already have a date set and more people in Maine. You could do a bigger budget for the Maine wedding vs the Italy wedding.

Have you considered perhaps doing just something in Italy, and seeing if some of your key friends and family in Maine are open to a destination wedding? Doing a destination wedding has the perk of keeping the headcount low, and depending on people's economic situation people can get quite excited about a destination wedding in Italy and turn it into a vacation. For the people in Maine who wouldn't be able to attend and are the closest to you, you can do something small like a nice dinner together before or after the destination event. Though I'm sure you guys have already considered this and perhaps it's not feasible for your guests in the US either.
