Have you ever caught the bouquet?

We talk a lot about whether or not you'll be tossing one, but have you ever caught the bouquet at a wedding?? If you did - were you the next to get married?

Same here! I was either 13 or 14 at my cousin's wedding.

I did at a wedding when I was 12! For obvious reasons, I was not the next one to get married. Smiley smile

I’ve caught the bouquet 3 times. The first when I was a child and I gave it to my cousin’s fiancé. The second when I was a teenager, which was extremely awkward. The final time at my sister’s wedding right after I graduated from high school (13 & 1/2 years ago). I was never the next to get married, but I am marrying the boy who caught the garter at my sister’s wedding. ☺️ I’m torn as to whether not I want to throw the bouquet at my own wedding. I feel like it maybe slightly outdated, and I’m not sure how many “single“ girls will be there, and willing to participate. Any advice?

I caught a bouquet (without trying) in 1987. I got married in 2017. Enough said.

I find that tradition, old fashioned, sexist, embarrassing and demeaning. Like Mrs. Fall Bride, I had to suffer sitting on display in the middle of the dance floor while some horny teenaged boy tried to put the garter on me. I can assure you he never got past my knee.

Yes, I actually have caught it, twice. I was definitely not next to get married. One, I was a teenager and the other I was in my mid-twenties. After I caught the second one, I pretty much stopped trying. I'm not throwing one.

I actually did catch it once, at my friend's wedding at the Barcade. The groom was one of my besties and childhood crushes from way back when, and it was the first time I'd met the bride. Nobody was really fighting for the flowers, but I was pretty surprised to catch them. I was single and living alone, so not really embarrassing and they were gorgeous as a keepsake Smiley smile What waaaaas embarrassing was the groom's cute lesbian friend who'd caught the garter (whom I'd also never met) who afterward had to do that thing where they try to put the garter on the girl that catches the bouquet. Smiley xd It was actually pretty fun, and though I wasn't next to get married, the fact that I AM getting married is shocking enough. At my other girlfriend's wedding, she didn't toss her bouquet, and instead had Victorian cake pulls. They're these little silver charms that get hidden under a slice of cake and have a little ribbon attached, and then the charm you pull out gives you a certain fortune. She did that for the whole bridal party (and me, the reverend haha) and I got the little wedding bells, also hinting at impending marriage. At the time I was engaged so that was pretty satisfying and adorable. Didn't pan out that time, but I still have the charm, and if I can get to my storage shed (in another state) I'll use it in my bouquet :3

I’ve caught the bouquet multiple times, though most when I was much too young to be getting married. I was also almost knocked out by a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding for one.

That time and the time I caught it at my brother’s wedding we’re both embarrassing. Nearly getting knocked out sucked, even more so since it was in the couple’s wedding video and in their pictures, which were posted on Facebook. But nothing was worse than the bouquet and garter toss at my brother’s wedding. I was the MOH at 19, catching the bouquet first. Then I was made to sit down as they tossed the garter. They followed the tradition that the garter goes on the girl who caught the bouquet. So my cousins literally fought it out of a guy’s hands and tore it in two. It was horrible.

Won’t be doing one at my wedding.

It has literally just occurred to me at this moment that I have never been at a wedding where the bouquet was thrown. So nope, never caught the bouquet!

I did! It was my best friend's wedding and I was also the officiant. Both the bride and I started off as team mates on our high school track team and have been friends ever since. The competitive spirit was definitely well and alive that night 😂

We attended a wedding with 2 brides so 2 bouquet tosses (one for girls, one for boys). Bouquet 1 went right over bride A’s three Scandinavianly statuesque sisters and into my face in a perfect arc. Bouquet 2 bounced off the football rush of dudes who ran for it and right into the arms of my then boyfriend.

We took it as a sign from the universe that we should probably consider getting married (we have been together for almost a decade). Pandemic backburnered our plans for a bit but we’re forging ahead now!
