Have you lied about your venue's capacity to justify not inviting someone?

Sam, on September 18, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 59

Sometimes it’s the truth and you are genuinely at risk of exceeding your venue’s max capacity - but sometimes it’s also just a convenient excuse to navigate awkward invitation conversations! Today we want to know how many of you have used this excuse as a white lie! Whether it was a second cousin asking to bring their three friends, co-workers you never talk to, or old friends coming out of the woodwork on social media - have you ever lied about your venue’s capacity to justify not inviting someone? Are you innocent or guilty?

Not yet but if my dad keeps trying to add extended family to the guest list I might have to.

It’s not a lie persay. We could have more people, but budget wise, it isn’t unreasonable.

But i would Lie to not hurt someone’s feelings? Yes, probably.

We didnt lie about capacity but we did tell my grandma they cost of each plate was a tad higher than it really is to justify why she shouldn't invite her neighbors (who fh and i do not know)

Yes, sort of! Our venue really is small, so its a legit excuse!

A handful of coworkers flat out asked if they were invited and I told them our venue was too small to accommodate everyone so we stuck to family. Partial lie, we invited tons of friends as well.

A few family members asked if kids were going to be invited, and we had to tell them no because kids add about 30 chairs and we just can't do it. That was not a lie, that would have put us over the max and our list over 200 people...no thanks, no kids.

FMIL wanted to add about 20-30 people to her list who were long time family friends, cousins, etc. In the whole 2.5 years I've been with FH I haven't met any of these people once. Not at holidays, family functions, etc. We gave her a 10 extra person allowance and she ran with it. We did tell her we couldn't fit any more though to make it sound like we didn't have room rather than us just not wanting them there, lol.

Hi Katlynn! This seems pretty reasonable, especially since you don't know your grandma's neighbors!

Also she is the only close family member that hasn't offered to help with anything wedding related and has invited the most people. She did the same thing for my baby shower and most of her people did not even respond.

I haven't had to yet. My venue is really really large so I will probably use the "It's not in the budget" excuse

Innocent. We’re keeping our guest list to mostly family, and only family that we have had contact with regularly. Nobody has asked yet why they weren’t invited 🤷🏻‍♀️

100% guilty & innocent, I've used to to justify to parents in not to invite anyone, but our max is also 120pp so we can't really invite whoever we want!

Thankfully, we haven't had to use this excuse. We are having a small wedding (27 including FH and I) so, when anyone asks we honestly just tell them that it is immediate family and a few close friends only. Thankfully, the people asking (coworkers, distant cousins, and parents friends) all understand and haven't been insulted that they are not included.

Honestly, no. I'm just honest and tell ppl we're paying for this ourselves mostly and can't afford to have everyone and their brother there lol.
