Haven't even begun

Leslie, on November 30, 2020 at 6:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Hi fellow Brides/Grooms

So, my wedding date is less than a year away and I have yet to book anything pertaining to my wedding. I’m not sure whats the procrastination other than Covid 19, anyone else taking their time with their plans although time is running fast?

Due to the sheer number of postponed ceremonies, I would look for a venue asap since the dates of most vendors will be booked solid. You may have think outside the box with unique venue and vendors to get who you want. Start browsing eventective.com and thumbtack.com right away...and be flexible with your date if need be.

At this point I’m thinking super minimal. I’ve read too many horrid stories of couples not getting their refunds, or having to postpone. We went from 100 guest to 50 now I’m thinking 25 if that. I might just have my ceremony/reception on my cousins roof. I don’t really feel enthusiastic..

I would definitely figure out the venue and book it soon. Then you can start looking at other services.

I would definitely hurry and book a venue, I know that many places are booking early because of Covid postponements.

Agreed with the hurrying to book things. Even venues for minimal weddings could book up (due to all the postponements). Even if you could find a venue you might have issues finding your caterer, photographer, baker, florist, dj, and all that jazz. Also the sooner you get your venue the sooner you can let your family and friends know because with the postponements they might have other weddings already.

There are going to be slim pickings as far as available dates in ‘21 & ‘22 because of COVID. Most importantly, what’s your wedding vision? Do you want a backyard wedding or at a venue?

Even if you want a small wedding with minimal things, you still will want to start planning the things you do what ASAP.

I honestly was the opposite. I wanted to book everything really fast so I didn’t have to plan anymore which wouldn’t have been different without covid. Planning during covid sucks. Sending you good thoughts!

My sister booked a venue literally 2 weeks before the wedding. But they had a super small wedding. None of the family was invited cause we would all have to travel, so it was only her fiancé, the officiant, and about 4 of her co workers. If you plan on having more than 5 people you should start looking at options now. Things may be booking up soon!

Yeah, you're really running out of time, I definitely wouldn't be planning anything real big with your wedding this coming June 2021. Obviously book a venue, and decide on a guest list. With the amount of time you have right now, I would just aim for a small micro-wedding, maybe have 50 guests max. Probably go for simple restaurant catering to make things cheaper for you, or maybe go with a food truck. Definitely book your photographer and your DJ/Band as soon as you have your venue decided on.

I had a 5 month engagement, with no planning at all before that. And like a lot of people I know, including many of my sibs and relatives, and also a lot of people I was in grad school or the army with, who planned with mostly 4-7 months, it is possible to do the designer dress if you want it, and nice venues or restaurants or Inns, old mansions or hotels, for any size wedding. This last decade and a half, the push has been to start sooner and sooner. But no more people are marrying, fewer do. And more places rent out as venues, by far. Ues, between 15 months and 11 months, a huge number of venues are booked for year round, or full 8 months of the year at least. But a byproduct of many trying to book at 2 years, 18 months, others way ahead, is that more and more venues again have vacancies at 4-8 months. A huge percentage of venue reservations made early are cancelled. The wedding is off, or postponed, or cut by 30-50, or changed their mind on themes and atmosphere. We found that places told us, at a year we had every Fri and Sat booked, and most Thursdays and Sundays all summer. But at the end of May when we started looking, they had 4-6 Friday and Saturday slots a month open
And were easy on prices, just to not end up with open dates. And I do some cooking for catering, and when needed in a few large Inns , and they have the same tale. If you want a particular high status hotel ballroom at a special location, start early. But most venues, it is not that hard. And when people cancel, they drop their other vendors, too, who at 2-4 months are scrambling to re- fill their schedules.
Don't let people scare you off. At 9 months, if that is when you are moved to start, the main issue you will have is Covid uncertainty. Not unavailability of small venues.

Good Luck. I had a two year engagement planned before covid and venues were already booked for my date. Now with covid im happy I had most of my vendors booked. With 2020 being cancelled and moved to 2021 you need to start asap. Might be better to fine a venue that can do mostly everything.

I was in the same boat. I couldn’t make my mind up about anything that finally my fiancé said I we’d need to postpone if I didn’t make decisions! I definitely didn’t want that so that got me motivated to make decisions and stick to them haha. I started making firm plans and really planning 6 months before the wedding. We’re having a micro wedding so it was very manageable with that much time.

    Morning.
I think my problem is I’m in btwn ideas; once I decide what I really want than perhaps I’ll make solid plans but until than, I kinda don’t want to waste funds thinking I love something when I truly love something else. Who knows..

Yes, I agree. I’m just not 100% sold on what I truly want. A micro wedding, elopement, big wedding. Fall or summer, local or destination. Too many options yet so little time. Best wishes to you and your fiancé.

I agree. Even if I get married at a roof top or backyard I’ll be content and those that are truly there for my happiness will be happy to attend no matter where it is. Blessings to you and yours.

    Hi,

I’m not too concerned w a photographer since I’m friends with many, nor a dj or band bc I know some great ones that would come out. I’m just undecided as to what I truly want. Theme, decor, etc. I can be complicated yet very simple and can display OCD at times. Lol
    Best wishes
