Having a second photographer worth it?

Michelle P, on September 4, 2012 at 7:27 AM Posted in Planning 0 28

Hey Ladies/Gents,

To those of you that have gotten a 2nd photographer or are thinking about it, I was just wondering if it's really worth the extra money and what they do/the pros/cons of it?

Thanks! Smiley smile

I would say it's worth it. I haven't received our pro pics yet (they are being mailed out today!!!!!) but we were able to send one photographer with the guys and one with us girls when we were getting ready. Each photographer got different angles on some of our posed pics, as well as our non-posed ones. While we were wrapping up pictures with the family at the church, the second shooter went to the reception hall to capture pictures of the decor. I am eager to see the different angles and techniques used by each photographer.

Definitely worth it. We had two for our e-pics and they got completely different photos of the same pose!

WORTH!!! Couple of reasons. First, when I was getting ready, one was with me and when the guys were getting ready, one was with them. When one was getting all the pre ceremony group shots, the other was taking those "details" photos of our reception all set up before the guests got in there and mussed it all up. Plus with our first look, we got plenty of great shots between the 2 of them.

Indeed, worth it. In addition to what the ladies said, we have many pics of me walking down the aisle AND H waiting for me at the alter. That alone was priceless to me. Also, I had more peace of mind knowing if something happens to the main guy, at least his wife should still make it.

Yes. We had 2 photographers and 2 videographers. Between the 4 of them we missed none of the little details. Very happy we splurged on them since we were so busy on the day we really didn't get to take it all in.

I am Mrs. C! - You make a very good point that you can send one to the girls and one with the boys but we are having a very small wedding with only 2 BM & 2 GM and about 70 guests, that's why I am wondering if it's a good idea? I would love to make sure we get all our family shots and some nice shots of our decor and venue. You getting your professional pics back today must be super exciting! I'd be antsy all day till I got them lol from what I remember of your post, you had a beautiful wedding Smiley smile

Mrs Clark aka Mrs. Awesomepants - (great name btw lol) Having 2 photog would be great for the first look, I can imagine the different shots each one would take.

Mrs. S - Yes, defiantly want shots of FH and then me coming down. Also, want a different shot at the alter, I want the photog or (if I decide to add 1 more) I want the other photog to stand behind the minister to take pics of us and get all the guest in the background & then just some of me and FH.

Andrene M - WOW! I wish I had your budget lol. I really want videography too as it would be so fun and nice to relive your day over and over but, I am defiantly swaying to getting a 2nd photog now as I don't wanna look back on my photos & be disappointed we missed something or didn't take enough.

Ive heard that this is worth is so FH & I our really taking this into consideration. I was told that they would be able to get different photos and your day is filled with captured moments that one would have had a hard time doing by his/herself. I was considering this as well because I wanted photos of the BM & GM getting ready before the wedding. I love those photos! I think they are so neat & it captures how the Bride & Groom is feeling right before they say "I Do!"

Definitely worth it! No matter how good your photographer is, the pictures will never be as good as they would have been if you had two photographers getting different angles, and perspectives on each shot.

I can see that having a second photographer would be great because you would be able to get different angles of the same pic (for example the kiss at the end of the ceremony). I did not have a second photographer for budget reasons and I am completely happy with my pictures! We got almost 300 pics in 2 hours (many more were taken, but I think the bad were filtered out before we saw them) and I love every one of them! There are few things I wish I had pics of that I don't and I think that has more to do with the time we hired the photographer for than with the amount of photographers present.

We had 42 guests or so :-) I realized recently that I'm not sure if it's 41 or 42 haha.

It didn't make a difference. My H didn't want his pics taken when he was getting ready. So one photographer was taking pics of details and the other was with me. We also wanted a pic with every guest. That can be challenging but it went faster with 2. I mean, you will live and can have great pics with just one if they're good. But if you can afford it, it's even better.

I was SO happy to have two photographers. One came and took photos of the girls getting ready while the other stayed with the guys. We got so many cool shots during the ceremony from all over the place and same with the reception. It was also nice that when we went bowling after the ceremony one was able to come with us while the other went to the cocktail hour. It saved tons of time!

Mrs. S - Wow, a picture with every guest to me would seem to take forever! I'd like a picture with the whole wedding guest (big group shot) those look so awesome!

Cydni - Bowling after the ceremony is neat! and sounds fun Smiley smile I'm defiantly starting to think having 2 photog is a good idea and worth the $$.

I think it's worth it. There maybe some photos that one photographer is not able to capture but another one can. My package for my photographer includes a second photographer but I think it can also depend on how many guests you have as well sometimes. HTH!

I actually wasn't that bad, given that most guests came in couples, and that many people were family and/or WP so those shots were taken care of. With our guest list, we had an additional 20 pics or so. We sent them with TY cards and everyone loved them!

The package me & FH were looking at is : $3000

8 hours continuous coverage (1 photographer)

DVD of all edited high-res photos (minimum 400 pics)

Private online gallery for downloading + sharing

and to add a 2nd photog is $350

or I think I'm leaning towards this package instead cause it comes with a coffee table book of our big day that we could keep or give to one of the parents and then make one to give to the other parents and this package includes an e-session which is a bonus!!

    Package: $3695

8 Hours continuous coverage (2 photographers)

DVD of all edited high-res photos (minimum 500 pics)

    Gorgeous Hardcover Coffee table book

Engagement Session + disc of edited images (minimum 30)

Private online gallery for downloading + sharing

Are you doing a first look? If so I don't think a second photographer is needed.

Andrene, Our guest list is just a ruff copy right now so the number isn't set. Most of our guest are out of town so, some might not be able to make it which will cut cost.

Labake - Yes, I want to do a first look.. defiantly! the 2nd photog would be there from start to finish if I were to get one and he or she would be taking other pics of decor, venue, guests etc...

I'm gonna talk to FH about adding a 2nd photog and go over budget see if we can squeeze it in, I really think it's a good idea to get some different shots or one's that we may not of had time to take the 2nd photog can take care of. I'm just afraid if we add a 2nd photog we might not be able to do videography Smiley sad
