Having a second photographer worth it?

Hey Ladies/Gents, To those of you that have gotten a 2nd photographer or are thinking about it, I was just wondering if it's really worth the extra money and what they do/the pros/cons of it? Thanks!

I would say def worth it!! I want a photographer with the guys and well as one with us getting ready. Also want FH reaction as well as a picture of mine when I walk down the aisle. Plus I feel like you have less of a chance of something being missed!

If it's a choice between a 2nd photog and video, skip the 2nd photog.

Actually both of our photographer and videographer services come with a 2nd photographer.

I believe it's based on the amount of people at your wedding. Anything over 100 people will need a second person.

You don't have to hire the 2nd one for the entire day. Maybe you might only need them in the beginning for when you and your FH are getting dressed in different places.

I say it depends on the number of guests/size of your venue. My MOH got married 4 years ago, they had a wedding at a hotel (the ceremony was in a huge atrium in the main lobby area & the reception was in a ballroom right next door). They had about 150 guests. They actually had 3 photographers & feel its COMPLETELY worth it. They had two catching from either angle and one that worked on crowd photos. The 3rd person would also hold up light shields. They took some amazing photos.

I'm getting married at a small venue w/only 57 guests. We can't afford/don't have the space for a videographer. My MOH offered for her hubby to record the ceremony, toasts, first dance, etc. Yes it won't be perfectly edited like it would be if a videographer did it, but at least I have it recorded. :o)

@Michelle - I can't wait until they are in my mailbox. I have been dying to see them. We also had a smaller wedding. I had 4 BMs, DH had 4 GM, and we had 75 guests. I still think it was worth it Smiley smile

Edited to add - I would so take a videographer over a second photographer. I wish we had hired a videographer so bad.

@Christina, we are having a smaller wedding but I want amazing pictures as that's all you have left after besides your memories. My mom didn't have a pro photog or videographer she just had family take pics and record her wedding there is nothing wrong with family video taping, there are some good sites you can edit on or if you have a Mac that's good to use as well.

I Am Mrs. C! - I defiantly think it's worth it now too & even though you didn't have a videographer, I know your pictures will be beautiful! can't wait to see the pros! Smiley smile

We're having up to 5, actually. (i know, i know...super crazy. but let me explain!!) three are coworkers of my FH with successful side businesses (2 help their other coworker with his modeling agency), 1 is FH's coworker's wife, and 1 is my coworker who's a budding photographer. like others have mentioned before, it's great to have moments captured at the same time, plus there will not be a shortage of pics (mom and FMIL will be relieved to hear that). their services are their gifts to us as well. plus one photog will probably be our dj and another will probably be our videographer or at least help us set up a streaming service for family who couldn't be at the wedding so we're saving money/resources there too.

even if you have a friend who's just starting out, they could still provide a fresh look and could capture some great shots!
