Having only bridesmaids and no groomsmen! Weird?

Hey all! Is it unusual to only have bridesmaids and no groomsmen? My FI said that most of his friends would be up for a possible deployment around the time of our wedding and he doesn’t want any groomsmen. Also my bridesmaids have already gotten their dresses and ready to go. So is this unusual?

I am having the same situation with my guy. He doesn't want anyone standing up there with him and I have my girls excited and ready to go.

That is an interesting situation. It seems a little sad that he does not have at least someone to honor as a groomsman. It does sort of interrupt our desire for a picture-perfect event. Yet, the event is the marriage, not the pictures. And it seems he would be ready to answer questions why the ceremony was done this way.

I’m late to the discussion too, but I’m in a similar situation. We’re both in our early 40s, his closest friend passed away and another close friend won’t be able to attend the wedding due to his health. He won’t even have a best man. We will have a ring bearer and flower girl for sure. I have 3 very close friends who I know I will rely on leading up to and during the wedding. They would basically be bridesmaids without the title, dress or bouquets. And that doesn’t seem right to me. So I’m thinking of going ahead and having 3 bridesmaids and no BM or groomsmen. Any thoughts?

Hey Natalie! Congratulations 🎉I’m sorry about your fiancés passing of his close friend 😞 but yeah I would totally go ahead and your closest friends as bridesmaids. I didn’t regret just only having bridesmaids at our wedding. I just had them walk down the aisle and sit towards the front it was perfect.

Hi! Yes I still had them carry their own bouquets coming down the aisle and as they were seated!
