HCG diet anyone? Fiance and myself looking to lose some weight before the big day!

lindsay, on January 2, 2015 at 12:08 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 10

I know this is a super controversial diet etc. and I looked through past discussions regarding HCG, however, they were all very old/out dated. Wanted some up to date info/advice from anyone who is currently on it or has done it in the past. Any advice, info, suggestions ect!

TIA!

Lindsay

I had to google that. Sorry but that sounds like the most ridiculous diet ever and very dangerous. It would do horrible things to you metabolism not to mention the possibility of damaging some of your organs. No matter what fancy name this diet has its just a gimmicky way of putting you on a crash diet, that only leads to a yo yo diet.

Try and make changes to your lifestyle that promote healthier living. The answer is a slow and steady weight loss by eating healthier and increasing your cardio and strength training. Try the my fitness pal ap on your smart phone. Its awesome for keeping track of your caloric intake and any calories burned.

Couple of my friends have done it, no lasting effects in particular. im for doing a detox, such as the 10-day green smoothie detox. it isnt a crash diet...more like a plan to rid your body of toxins that build up over time and make you gain weight or prevent you from losing, plus it makes you radiant all around, while losing a few lbs in the process. good luck!

The HCG diet works. I did it a few years ago and lost almost 70 lbs. I did it through my doctor so it was supervised. I did the injections. He also prescribed appetite suppressants and another prescription, I wanna say it was some form of testosterone (but I could be wrong). I have an under active thyroid and EVERYTHING I tried to lose weight failed. This was the only thing that worked AND I've kept it off for several years. The injections were in my stomach, the needle was an insulin needle, so not painful, and the best part was the HCG targeted the belly fat and I was NEVER hungry. The downfall was that after I lost the weight, I needed a tummy tuck to get rid of the loose skin but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It's the only thing that has worked for me.

This may not be the answer for everyone but it worked for me. My doctor was concerned because at 5'2" weighing over 205 lbs was not healthy for me. My cholesterol was high and so was my blood pressure. The risks of me being over weight were worse than any risks with the HCG diet.

This diet is not for everyone and you really have to be healthy to start it in my opinion in terms of your blood work. I also would not do it unless under the care of a doctor and weekly supervision. The diet itself is very strict and not for the tame. It basically is designed to reset your metabolism and retrains/educates you in how to make healthier eating choices. It is successful only if you change the way you eat really for the rest of your life.

I just finished 6 weeks with the HCG injections. I lost 20 lbs and I am loving the way I look and feel. I opted to go with the HCG diet after I had hit a plateau that I could not break for almost a year despite a regular exercise program and watching calories. Previously I had lost 30 lbs through regular exercising and watching my calories before I hit the plateau. I think I stalled because my body had gotten accustomed to my exercise program and I completely killed my metabolism by eating too few calories. My body was in starvation mode for months. UGH! Anyway, now I am resetting thanks to the HCG and plan to continue with my exercise program with a higher caloric intake of protein, good fat foods, veggies, selected fruits, some carbs, and very low sugar.

At the end of the day it's a personal choice. Whatever you do, do it wisely, and ALWAYS consult your doctor when choosing a weight loss program. Good luck!!

HCG is super tough. I previously did it and it worked but it came back. I find Atkins and low-carb protein lifestyle with exercise is more sustainable. However I have had friends do it and they look great and keep it off.

I wouldn't do anything like that. Eating clean and working out is your best bet.

Agreed with Nikol about not doing that diet and clean eating being your best bet.

My fiance and I are finishing up a Whole30. It's an elimination diet and you cut out grains, dairy, legumes, alcohol, added sugar of any kind and basically anything else that's processed for 30 days, then slowly reintroduce to see how those things affect you. I love it because I still get to eat things I want, within reason, and I'm never starving or constantly thinking about food (I get obsessive when I do calorie counting, and I haven't done it once this month)

I'm getting married in June and this was a great way to kickstart losing weight but also get myself into that healthy mindset moving forward. I've lost 12 lbs in 30 days, plus I look and feel so much less bloated (which helps in the stomach area!). And now I can go on knowing that I can survive without pasta, or a glass of wine every night, or a ton of added sugar in my coffee, which saves calories throughout the rest of the year. I'm probably going to severely limit dairy and grains after this, just because I know I can and know that they contribute to weight gain/bloating/overeating for me.

It's hardcore, and you really do have to do it for the entire 30 days without cheating even once. But it's an awesome jumpstart to hitting health goals and a helluva lot safer than HCG.

http://whole30.com/ has all of the info. Good luck getting ready for your big day! Smiley smile

I did this a few years ago and although I lost weight fast, I also lost a lot of my hair fast! And I have fine and thin hair to begin with, so for me, this was traumatizing. It took awhile for my hair to grow back to normal. I think that was my bodies way of telling me it couldn't handle all that weight loss so quickly.
