Head table backdrop DIY HELP!!! pics of what i mean

Kristina, on May 8, 2012 at 9:29 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

Hi Ladies, I am heading out to go shopping today and I am gonna FINISH my wedding shopping..... yay!!! Gonna try and get back into the mood here. But one thing I am struggling with is the backdrop for the head table. Has anyone made one of their own? Are there easy ways to do this? I really don't know where to start. I know what fabric I want, (tooling) and I want the colors to be chocolate, taupe and green. Is lighting a must? I want it, but if it shoots me over my budget is it a must? Do I look for flood lights on the ground for the spotlight effect or do I go with clear christmas light strings? I don't know where to start?!?!

Unfortunately I'm probably not the best person for advice considering I've never really seen a head table backdrop BUT I have seen some people with lights underneath their head table (underneath the linens) and they used white christmas light strings and it looked gorgeous!

Rachel has a great idea - another option would be to purchase LED battery operated lights - they are small so you might need a dozen or so - and hide them in pockets of the fabric. You can stick with white or they have color changing ones that would also be pretty. They are really inexpensive to buy. I am using them in the paper lanterns.

It's not a must but there are tons of cheap options. The christmas lights are perfect examples

These are examples of the backdrops. I want the full on fabric behind the table with lights and color accents. I can decorate the table itself, that won't be a problem, Just not sure how to create this kind of look..... How do I hang the fabric?

The first picture is different from the last two and it is suspended from the ceiling with dowels.Which will be alot more harder to DIY on your wedding day. And if that's the one you want, you will have to contact your venue for permission. And also know what type of ceiling you hall has (ex:drop panel).

On the last two pics You are going to need pipe and drape and from those pictures that is a 10x20. you will need 3 -18x18 bases,3 adjustable uprights and 2- 7-12 drape supports. You can rent from you local rental company for about 8.00 per piece. For the fabric i will highly recommend voile sheer or poly Satin (Hobby Lobby 2.99 a yard ). If you have any questions PM me .

I wouldn't suggest PVC pipe when you are putting fabric on it. You will need P&D and make sure you get sand bags to sit on the bases for extra weight. You wouldn't want it to fall over on you or one of your guest.
