Head Table Variations, or a Sweetheart?

Catherine, on July 28, 2021 at 2:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
Hey all!

Would love to celebrate with the bridal party and sit everyone at the head table, but we have 10 total (5 each) plus significant others (about 20 total 😬). Any creative ideas for an alternative head table? Otherwise we may just opt for a sweetheart table to make it easier. Any thoughts welcome!

    Hi Catherine!

That definitely seems to be a hefty number BUT when I was looking up head tables, I had come across a few unique ones. This one was my favorite. They call it the King Arthur Table. Might not be for everyone but thought I'd still share it anyway. In the long run though, we decided to do a sweetheart table to better accommodate our layout for the rest of the reception.

Most people on WW are against head tables lol, but personally I like the look of them. I've seen where the couple sits in the middle, wedding party on each side, and their SO's sit opposite of them. I've also see the couple in the middle, bridal party on each side, and the SO's seated at tables together to the side, but this really works best if your wedding party is okay sitting away from their SO at the beginning of the reception, and if everyone is comfortable and knows each other.

We plan on doing the second option. We like the look of a head table since our venue has a grand fireplace on one end, but FH's side are his dad and brothers and they're all married with kids. There's no way we can seat everyone at our head table lol. All of my bridal party's SOs know one another very well too. We've ran the idea by them all and no one has an issue with sitting separate for the very beginning! They're welcome to pull up chairs at the head table after speeches and eat together lol, we don't care if they move around after.

If neither of those sound like they'd work for you, then you may have to just do a sweetheart table!

My husband and I decided to on a sweetheart table for our upcoming reception. I have 6 in my bridal party and he has 8 so 14 total and we didn't want that long of a table. I think the picture that Jasmine posted is really pretty if you have the space

    😁

Yea, I was like that's pretty cool. Literally never seen it done like that before and if you got the space, go for it, ya know?? Unfortunately, our current layout wouldn't work and that's ok. We're fine with a sweetheart table.

You could do a long farm table that holds 20 people, then all the guests at smaller round tables.

To avoid splitting up couples for dinner, I'd go with a sweetheart table too,

We are putting 3 farm tables together for one big head table. It will seat 18!

Half our wedding party is single, the other half is couples and we couldn't figure out any decent formation to do a head table, so we decided on a sweetheart table. We actually liked that idea from the get go because we wanted that slight privacy and having a moment to ourselves.

Hmmm that’s one in the sweetheart column - the day will go by so fast it might be nice to have a scheduled time for just us! Thanks!

We went with a sweetheart table and I’m glad we did because it gave us time to ourselves. You get pulled in so many directions it’s hard to have time with just the two of you.

I'd recommend having a sweetheart table. We loved having one because it gave us some time to ourselves and we actually got to eat our meals!
