Height difference?

Danielle, on May 3, 2016 at 5:09 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 26

My FH is 6'8" and I'm 5'3", I don't really wear heels much but I'm considering wearing them on our wedding day because I think the pictures might look better. Aside from practice is there any other tips for being comfortable/confident in heels?

Any other brides or brides-to-be on here with big height differences?

ETA: I'm wearing smallish heels in this picture

Definitely practice and wear them in. I'd find a low heel so you feel more confident. Don't worry about the height difference as you spend most of your life together without the heels on anyway.

NOOO! Embrace your height! This is me and DH, he's 6"4 and I'm 5"0, so close in difference! Also a quick shot from our first kiss from a friend so you can see it doesn't look weird.

I'm 5'3" as well and FH is 6'5". I get what you're meaning about the pictures but honestly, wouldn't you rather have pictures that are true to who you are as a couple? I love teasing FH about his height because it's part of what makes us us if that makes sense (:

If you are set on wearing heels, I suggest cute wedges because they are easy to walk in. Either way, make sure you wear them around town for a week or two to make sure they're broken in and won't kill your feet! You can also relieve foot pain by rubbing your foot over a tennis ball on the ground. Good luck!

I'm 5'0, FH is 6'2. I'm wearing converse, I never thought I walked right in heels and I find them very uncomfortable.

Personally, I don't think you should worry about needing heels to make the pictures "look better". I think you guys are adorable, height different and all!

@m m. Aw I love your pictures, you and your husband are too cute!

@wheninlove that's what my mom thinks, she told me every single person there knows us and knows how tall he is so what's the point in trying to change it lol and I definitely tease my FH all the time about it too! Lol

@grumpy thank you, I probably started over thinking it

We are both short LOL. but I wear heels all the time, to answer your question about what you can do: I am wearing some comfy wedges I've had for a very long time under my dress. I saw a bride do this last year. She had some fancy wedding shoes used for pictures, but months later when we were chatting and her wedding came up (I was there when she purchased her dress) she mentioned she had on wedges the entire time, and the fancy shoes were used for "getting ready" pictures only. So yeah team comfy wedges. They also make wedding sneaker, I know a bride who wore these. They are fancy sneakers with a heel.

@ffw I saw a pair of sneakers with a heel! They were pretty cute and I thought that might work for the reception. I'm team wedges too! I walk like a baby giraffe in normal heels lol

FH is 6'3" and I am 5'1" I decided to wear heels, I've broken them in and we were dancing in our living room practicing to our first dance song and FH said he honestly didn't like me wearing heels because he's not used me being that tall. I've looked into wearing heals for the ceremony and flip flops for the reception.

We have a big height difference too. I'm wearing heels, but I walk well in them and love to wear heels so it's not out of the ordinary for me. If you're not good in heels, wabbling around would look worse than the height difference.

Practice and find the right pair! You can also get the Dr Scholls inserts but for some shoes they do not help so shop around and make sure you get something comfy.

FH and I don't have as big of a height difference (he's 5'11" and I'm 5'3"). I'm definitely not wearing heels. My reasoning is this: if I wear heels at any point during the day and have my dress altered to be the right length with them, it'll drag on the ground and get dirty and probably tattered fast. I've read that if you have multiple pairs of shoes, they should not have more than 1/2" height difference for this very reason. So definitely something for everyone to consider!

My FH and I are a foot apart: he is 6'0" and I am 4'11" ish. I thought about wearing higher heels to make myself taller for pictures and then realized I would be miserable. So I'm just wearing pumps that have nice insoles. My suggestion regardless would be to look for shoes with great cushion inside!

Aww I love when tall guys date us short girls it's just cute! I'm 5'2 he 5'10 or taller and although it's not a huge difference I'm wearing heels but I love heels. I forgot I had them on while trying on dresses untill the lady helping me made a comment about me stepping into a ballgown with them on and having no problem with balance

@beth I thought of that too! So if I do wear heels they'll be pretty small and I'd switch to flats with a slight wedge! But I'm starting to think it might not be worth the pain lol
