Hi everyone. I have begun to look for my wedding gown (looking for a ballgown style dress), which is proving to be very stressful. I am looking for something modest, but not Duggar-ish and I am more than willing to alter the right dress. however, I feel like I need to know all the options that might be available.

Does adding sleeves really depend on the dress?

I know I could get a bolero, but I don't like the way those look on me when they sit over the dress (at least the few I've put on). Would it be possible to sew a bolero into a gown, sot that I still get the look of sleeves without a weird cut off point on the dress? The boleros always seem to hit at an odd spot on my body. I am a curvy size 8/10, and my hips are just a little wider than my upper body... I'm usually confident enough in my appearance, but this has me feeling so self-conscious and insecure. Please send suggestions! Thank you...

I tried on strapless dresses, and the store I was shopping in, offered a lace / illusion style bodysuit! She said they could sew it in, or button it in, so I could take it off after the ceremony.

Mine is a sophia tolli and i had sleeves added that were not even the same vendor but look great. Ask at the place you shop, they probably have some to show you. I told my consultant right off what I wanted and that a small sleeve I liked. Once we found a dress everyone liked she came out with some sleeve add ons that were just right! Really good consultant. She listened to everything I said.

My dress is being customized by the designer to add sleeves. I went to a trunk show and spoke with them about it and they were able to do it. You should go to a salon and ask which designers customize. Mine is Matthew Christopher, I know Augusta Jones will customize and Modern Trousseau also does. There may be others.

First off I love the Duggar reference lol and 2nd, If you don't want that old fashion sort of look theres alot you can do like Cap sleeves, lace that falls off your shoulders but wraps around your arms so your shoulders show a little, 3/4 sleeves, etc. I agree that a seamstress who knows where your coming from and what you have in mind can do anything!

Just a word of caution..7 months isn't that long. When I ordered my dress, I was told 6-8 months for it to come in and then time for alterations.

You could try a bolero or bridal topper to wear over the dress https://laceybellshop.com/wedding/bridal-jackets-shawls-tops/bridal-tops
