Help! Anyone seen a lantern card box?

Dancing Bride, on August 8, 2011 at 2:56 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

Our theme for the wedding is "An Enchanted Garden". We're decorating with lots of lanterns, flowers and butterflies. I was hoping to find a large lantern to use as a cardbox but they all seem so expensive! Has anyone seen a lantern cardbox (without a beach theme) or a large lantern that could double as a card box?

This is what I've found so far that I liked but if I can find something a bit less expensive that would be great! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I haven't searched too deep for it (yet) but I have found this... (which really isn't priced any better) http://www.shorechic.com/lantern_wedding_cardboxes.html

Have you tried Hobby Lobby or Michaels? Since it's beach season typically they have that sort of thing out... Depending on how handy you are I'm sure you could make your own! :o)

Thanks for looking Kimi! I can't find much either or at least nothing something that is not beach themed/related. I found cute little lanterns to use in the centerpieces but this one is throwing me for a loop! I'm going to keep looking (and taking suggestions) but I think you're right... I may have to figure out a way to make it a DIY project.

Maybe you could buy a smaller, less expensive one and put it on top of a round box that the cards would go in and decorate around the lantern with moss and flowers, maybe a bird's nest, fake butterflies, etc.

I am also looking for one. I don't mind if it is beach themed but I won't spend $149 either. Post if you locate something.

    Thanks!

This is the lantern I just bought to use for my card box from Pier 1 Imports. $25!! It's white, stands 16.54" high, 6.69" X 6.69" (depth and width) and has an open top for the cards. Some larger cards may have to be bent a little to fit in the top, or the guest can open the side door if they choose. Definitely beats the $149.

If this one is too small for your wedding there are larger lanterns at Pier 1 that would also work as card boxes. Or you could get two and give your gift table a more symmetric look.
