The Pastor who married us, wrote the WRONG Marriage date on the Marriage Certificate. (She's family, We paid her travel and hotel) Who thinks we should make her pay for it? Or should I not stir up any problems and pay for it ourselves, or should we just live with the wrong date?

My wedding was a destination wedding in Florida. In order to change it I have file a petition with the courts in Florida to amend my marriage certificate. Not to mention the cost!!! Approx. $500.00 just to file!!! plus travel expenses. When I received the certificate, I called her and told her she wrote the wrong date, she said "oh I did" During the wedding I kept asking her to let me see the license, so I can make sure everything was correct. At the end of the night she said I have the license I will send it off. I was like "Wait we didn't sign it" Well apparently we signed it when we got it, we didn't need to sign it again. I didn't think I had to say "Make sure you write the correct date .

If you can sweet talk a city clerk they might change it for free. Smiley smile

We almost had a problem like this too. I looked over our marriage certificate so many times because in Michigan it is the same way, if there is a mistake, it is $500 and you have ot open a court case. Seems crazy but that is the law so to answer your question J&R S. yes it is $500. If you live in a state where it is free thats great but not every state is like that.

If the date is important to you, change it (I would). And I would ask for money back, after all it is her mistake and it isn't like she was free.

I was born September 29th, and when the doctor signed my birth certificate, they signed it August 29th. It was never fixed and it bothers me to this day.

@ J&R S. Everytime I called they said the paper to file for the change is $400 and change, and some other charge. Thanks

Mistakes happen... my MOH started signing on the pastor's line. Woops! I just laughed it off. (She felt awful but it really didn't matter... I jokingly told her I'd get her back on hers someday. Smiley smile) There are so many things that can go wrong... my dress had a tear, my DH's tux was the completely wrong size and my parents didn't show up for pics. The last one is the only one that got me upset. Just let things go. Don't worry about things, especially those you can EASILY fix. Also, we were told we'd have to refile according to the paperwork, but town hall said it didn't matter. We still need to get a copy of it, but if we're told we need to refile at that point, it's really not a big deal. It's time, that's it.
