HELP!!!! Can a wedding be too casual?

NewMrsWesely, on June 2, 2014 at 2:25 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 40

I want a laid back casual wedding. My FH is a very laid back person. I am somewhat laid back. With that I am not wanting a crazy stressful wedding, I want it to be fun for not only myself but for guests. We are going to have it at the inlaws out on the grass with a tent.

I would be in a normal non puffy wedding dress, girls in short dresses guys in dark blue jeans, dress shirts, ties and vests.

Also thinking after the short ceremony we would have yard games like boccee ball, bags, ladder ball etc. After the games it would be time to eat at the buffet which is pulled pork, potato salad, coleslaw, corn, fresh fruit, cream cheese mints(I love them so they will be there lol) and baked beans. Drinks will be bottled water, lemonade, keg of beer and keg of hard cider.

After the meal will be dancing on a sectioned off area of grass.

Would you think you were just at any other picnic or would this work for a wedding?

I think it sounds like a fun wedding! If you want it laid back, then do it up! Since you're getting married, it will definitely be more than just a party Smiley smile

I think that sounds fabulous! It is very similar to what we are planning on doing. I don't think it's too casual at all. Your wedding should be whatever you want it to be!

I would be so happy to go to a wedding like that...go for it! (Just make sure your guests are all aware it will be casual, so they don't feel overdressed and can join in the fun!)

That isn't what I wanted for my own wedding, but I'd love to be a guest at a wedding like that. Sounds like fun! Do what you want.

Sounds great but i would look into a dance floor rental... dancing on grass is not the easiest thing. You can rent a 15x15 floor here for $45 a hour

I was thinking about a dance floor. Looked at prices around here. $300 to rent one other wise $180 to make one. As it is without the dance floor we are over our 6K budget by almost 2K. I am going to tell the guests no high heels for this reason.

I think it sounds like fun! And add a bride & groom to a picnic, it's definitely no longer a picnic. =)

I think it sounds fun and memorable.

My parents got married at sunrise on the beach. They were wearing jeans and cowboy hats, and afterwards their friends picked them up and threw them in the water. They went fishing and crabbing for their wedding meal. To this day people who were there tell me that it was the most fun wedding they ever went to.

If that's what you both want, do it!

I always say a wedding should reflect the couple Smiley smile

We're not going big and fancy either. Our rustic wedding is pretty laid back.

I understand your budget constraints but that "no high heel" rule will crash and burn. I don't know many women who'd want to wear anything but heels to a wedding. I'd get a dance floor or make a sign/give out flip flops so people don't try to dance in grass and hurt themselves.

Knowing myself I'd sprain my ankle or something.

Sounds fine to me, but dancing on grass does not. Whether they have real shoes or not, I have no idea how people would dance on grass.

If you think a casual event will still be memorable for you both, then do it.

You pretty much described my wedding to the word. I plan on having a blast at my wedding and don't consider it "too casual" at all. Our wedding represents us well. Just do whatever makes you happy!

Sounds great to me-- as long as you enjoy it and you're married at the end, that's all that matters. Your grandmother may have a heart attack, but that's on her. Smiley sexy

Sounds very similar to our wedding. Most people are likely going to be wearing jeans... we're gonna party down and just relax. backyard wedding. cookout/picnic style. yard games. Go for it!

Zoe-Well if my grandma is still around by time we get married (this sept she will be 95 so by the wedding 98) she would not care, she would just be happy that I am getting married.

For the heels I am not wearing any (will be cowboy boots- was going to do heels, I am 5'6 FH 6'5, but then we changed it to the outdoor wedding and I am not messing with that) also the BM's will be wearing flats. I think I will have flip flops available for the ones who want to have fun but not in heels
