HELP!!!! Can a wedding be too casual?

I want a laid back casual wedding. My FH is a very laid back person. I am somewhat laid back. With that I am not wanting a crazy stressful wedding, I want it to be fun for not only myself but for guests. We are going to have it at the inlaws out on the grass with a tent.

I would be in a normal non puffy wedding dress, girls in short dresses guys in dark blue jeans, dress shirts, ties and vests.

Also thinking after the short ceremony we would have yard games like boccee ball, bags, ladder ball etc. After the games it would be time to eat at the buffet which is pulled pork, potato salad, coleslaw, corn, fresh fruit, cream cheese mints(I love them so they will be there lol) and baked beans. Drinks will be bottled water, lemonade, keg of beer and keg of hard cider.

After the meal will be dancing on a sectioned off area of grass.

Would you think you were just at any other picnic or would this work for a wedding?

My cousin got married at a barn. They decorated the barn with those pendant flags you see at car dealerships, you picked your drinks out of a cooler out back, and there was hot dogs for food. I literally forgot we were at a wedding several times.

But it sounds like this is completely you guys and your group, so by all means, go for it. There no reason to make a fuss if you don't wnat to. There may be some who think it's odd, but they won't tell you (I would never tell my cousin that). So it really doesn't matter.

It does sound like fun. And it's perfect if it's perfect for you. Go for it!

I think it all sounds great but agree with previous posters about getting a dance floor. Regardless of shoes, its so much easier to dance it up on a dance floor!

Your wedding sounds like it will be a lot of fun! As for the dance floor, I would just make sure the dance area is freshly cut and tell guest that the dance floor will be for barefoot/flip flop dancing!

I'm with everyone else... do what you want Smiley smile

We're having the same kind of deal, but since very few of us dance, we're not doing a dance floor.

My wedding is similar to yours. It's on FH's ranch but the guys are wearing dress pants and no lawn games. My bridesmaids and I are wearing heels that have a think enough heel that they won't sink since FH is 6'3 and I am 5'3. I have on our site that since it's a working ranch thin heels like stilettos would not be best.

It sounds too casual for me and my DH's tastes. It would feel a bit too picnic-like for us, but that's not to say we wouldn't be able to have fun! If that is the feel you want for your wedding, then you should do it.

That sounds like sooo much fun!! Smiley smile Although it's not what I would want to do for my own wedding, I would absolutely LOVE to be a guest at a wedding like that! Can I come?? lol Smiley winking

And I agree with other posters that it would probably be best to get a dancefloor - I'm not thinking so much for the high heels issue (especially if you're going to tell people not to wear any and you'll have flip flops available), but also due to weather. If it rains the night before, the grass could be muddy, and that wouldn't be much fun to dance in.

If they're doing jeans, please get rid of the vests.

You can do whatever you want...it sounds like fun.

The only thing I would change is the groomsmen wearing jeans. Maybe corduroy or a light colored dress pant? That's only a personal preference though. I think the bridal party should be slightly more fancy than the guests.

Sounds like a wedding I could really get into as a guest. Go for it if it's what you like

From a Wedding Officiant: I am a licensed, registered Officiant and have been lucky enough to have performed 100's of weddings in over 15 years. What you should remember is that a wedding is public declaration of legal commitment to each other. That being said...couples should plan on having "their wedding, their way". It should be a direction reflection on the two of you because it is about you. I have performed "extremely elegant, over the top" weddings with 500+ guests but I have also performed theme weddings (Halloween at midnight etc,). My most memorable was the couple wanted to be married on motorcycles and you guessed it...I was on the back of a bike driven by the grooms father (going as slow as he could without tipping us over). The only exception to this: if it is a church wedding, there are certain requirements that must be met according to the church (and minister in some cases). Because you are thinking of a more casual setting, find an Officiant in your area (or one willing to travel) and discuss it with them. There are a lot of us Officiants who believe "your wedding, your way" and will be more than willing to support you throughout YOUR special event.

Emily after seeing your posts I think are weddings will be very similar in style and vibe. LOL I just want to have fun and my guests to have fun. I have seen way too many brides go crazy over the stress of making the perfect day. I still need to work on a weather backup though.
