Help! Can i wear a white cotton shawl over a blue dress to a wedding?

jessica, on May 19, 2018 at 1:59 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 4

I have a wedding to attend tonight and it's supposed to be chilly. I have already spent money on a dress, shoes and so much more to attend, and don't have any coats that look appropriate except an off-white cotton shawl. I'm wearing a blue/gray cocktail dress with black shoes. Is this totally a no-no? I don't want to have to buy something new last minute.

Edit: the bride is really cool and I know she wouldn't care, but I'm more afraid of upsetting family or older guests who are traditional.

Wear it. The shawl will come off at some point. And even if it doesn’t... wear it. The traditional family members will still know who the bride is.

    HI Jessica,

It's really great that you are considering the thoughts and feelings of you host's family-and any possible faux pas.

Since it is an accessory and not a white dress, it may not be that big of deal according to this piece which says it is no longer terribly taboo to wear white to a wedding.

It is off white and your dress and shoes will darken your palate so I would include that info when you shoot a text to one of her BM's to double check.

    Good luck

I think a white shawl would be fine!

It's more than ok. Showing up in a full length ivory gown would be tasteless, but a white accessory is no problem
