HELP - Copper vs Rose Gold

A&J, on January 2, 2017 at 7:04 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

My wedding isnt until 2018, but im just starting to look for decorations. We have decided to do copper as an accent color.

.Im having trouble telling the difference between copper and rose gold. Every copper i see it looks either like rose gold or it just looks brown..Maybe im not 100% positive what the color copper actually is?

Has anyone else done copper as an accent color, could you post some pictures?

If you can't tell the difference, will your guests be able to?

Try starting from a swatch instead of a name of a color, and go from there.

I agree with @beezie. The guest probably won't be able to tell the difference depending on your lighting. Maybe you should see which color is easily attainable.

They're very similar. A good rose gold should be pretty pink. Copper should be more orange.

Just as a heads up- rose gold is typically a mix of gold and copper to get that effect...so they are pretty interchangeable. rose gold may be more pink in some cases...but no one would notice for most things. call it whatever you'd like- it will look the same, and be stunning in pics!

Have various shades of copper and rose-gold -- it will be beautiful and won't drive you nuts trying to get an exact match.

I threw a shower for my friend and we did rose gold decorations to match her ring. It was a nightmare to find things that looked more rose gold and less copper. Rose gold is more of a pink is really the only thing. I agree with Nancy T, do various shades and save yourself the stress. It will still look really nice because the colors really are so similar.

Our main colors were dark jewel tones (dark blues, vibrant pinks, dark purples, and dark greens. We used gold, rose gold, and copper as our accent colors. Like jewells lol.

From the photos below you can see how we incorporated them. We had a white cake with copper swirl icing and dots. The cake stand is rose gold fabric with glitter copper ribbon tied around it. You can kind of see the copper picture frame in the corner of the photo w/ the cake flavors listed.

The other photo shows our gold mercury glass votives and our copper bird cage card holder.

A great place to look for copper decor right now is Pier One. They have a lot!

I did! I started with copper but ended up incorporating rose gold too because of exactly what you said. I'll post a few photos (one at a time, on mobile, sorry)

FSIL is having copper as an accent color at their weeding in a few weeks. I know she has had a hard time finding copper colored stuff. I saw some cute copper décor stuff over the holidays. You may want to invest in some copper spray paint. I know WPD has copper foil pressed STDs, Invites exc. That's the only place I have seen it, everywhere else is just silver, gold and rose gold.

More. I don't have much else on my phone but you get the gist. I kind of used copper and rose gold interchangeably. Just know no one is looking at the exactness of matching colors except you.

I had a similar issue with what "teal" actually is - there's a very particular shade that my FH likes but he just calls it "teal" so we've had the struggle. I've given up trying to define the color and I'm using a swatch.

Also, it doesn't all have to match EXACTLY. My FSIL (who is also a BM) suggested that I don't get too caught up with the exact color. Close enough is good enough.

I used teal as well, and just used whatever shades of it I found that looked good. My BM dresses were actually called 'jade' and significantly greener than 'teal,' but literally no one cared or noticed.

As pp said, rose gold is created when copper is added in larger quantities to yellow gold. This also gives the appearance of rose gold being very coppery. Copper can come in varying shades, from a pinkish copper to a dark brown copper, largely from a combination of how clean the copper is/if there is any weathering/patina on it, and the impurities in the metal itself.

When it comes to actual decor, copper and rose gold tend to be fairly interchangeable. Decor tends to use what I call the "shiny new penny"

copper, which is very, very close to rose gold.

True rose gold should have a *slightly* pinkish hue, but extremely pink rose gold generally has other additives to make it more pink and less coppery.

Thank you all very much! I've tried 3 different spray paint so see and they are all different colors of "copper". I'll probably just do the idea of having different shades so I don't have to panic if everything matching perfectly

I'm having this same issue because of the "naming" of colors. rose gold and copper range wildly, so I think I'll do best to have swatches and pics of my goal shade and going from there. Best of luck! And please share if you have any tips on this along the way.

We are using copper as a main color. When I think of copper I think of the mugs you get Moscow Mules in.

The best way to go: pick a shade you like and go with it, regardless of what other people are calling it. Rose gold is actually a pure gold and copper alloy, which is why they can look so similar (the lower the K, the more copper there is in it, so it'll look a lot closer to copper). Because rose gold is so "in" right now, there are also a lot of imitation products out there, which to me (as far as decor goes) is great -- same look, lower cost.

I'm biased, but Rose Gold! (I've loved it for years and I'm grateful it's picked up in popularity enough that FH got me a rose gold engagement/wedding ring set!)

But beyond my bias, whatever you feel like fits best side by side with your other wedding color swatches!
