Help! Dress on a Budget

Stephanie, on September 26, 2019 at 12:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I have not gone to browse dresses yet for fear of sticker shock and I heard that December - January is a good time to buy clearance and out of season styles. I am trying to stay under $500-1,000 with alterations.

Does anyone have any tips on how to not pay an arm and a leg for a dress I will wear one time?

Smiley heart

I bought my dress on Lulus website for $108. There’s other websites like Azazie. My MOH got her dress there and it was really pretty. It just depends on if you want the whole experience of going in person and trying on the dress.

I love what PP mentioned. Also try thinking about your dress as just a dress and not specifically it being wedding. For instance look at dresses thatre white in other categories like evening, prom, bridesmaids, etc. Because a pretty dress is a pretty dress even if it's not labeled as wedding and it tends to be cheaper that way

I'm using Azazie, they have free custom sizing and great prices. My dress is 299 and I'm hoping that the only alterations I'll need are just shortening the off the shoulder straps. AND they have a great try on sample program; it was super easy when I did it. And the dresses felt just as nice as any in a store.

David’s bridal has dresses under $200. If i were you i wouldn’t go to a boutique, even sample dresses sometimes start at $800-$900

I didn't go into any bridal shops so, but I hear David's Bridal is really good on pricing. I also hear alot about stillwhite.com on here and BHLDN. I bought my dress on Etsy from BlushFashion on a for just over $300. I also tried a beautiful dress with an open back from Lulus that I love but decided not to go with. Poshmark and other resell apps I have seen some beautiful dresses for sale that are in amazing condition for a fraction of the cost. If you look up "affordable wedding dresses" or even "wedding dresses under $___" you'll find a ton of options!

Azazie is definitely an option, but you can find a lot of options at David's Bridal for that price too! My dress was just under $700 I believe and I'm only getting alterations to take it in at the waist which they quoted for $65.

Where are you from? In Texas, there are consignment/off the rack stores that have all dresses under $1000. I'll be going to one this weekend to try some onSmiley smile

I'm from the Chicagoland area, and that sounds like so much fun!

I'm the type of person who has to try clothes on before I buy them and I have no idea what style I want to go with until I see it on.

I was thinking of going to David's Bridal and getting my measurements and trying on some styles to find what works for me and then using that information to shop elsewhere.

Will they give me my measurements and is this a totally awful thing to do?

I’d definitely recommend David’s Bridal. I had two appointments there at the end of August and the beginning of this month. At the first appointment I tried on some dresses that I liked online and found out my dress size. At the second appointment I decided to look through the clearance rack for discounted dresses in my size, and I got my dress for $360 (it was originally $1000). In addition to clearance dresses, they also have lots of dresses under $200 and under $500, whatever your budget is.
I’ve been quoted around $250 from my seamstress for alterations (I need it hemmed, a modesty piece put in (it’s casually in place in the picture I attached), and a bustle—the majority of the cost is for hemming).

I second checking out David’s! The dress I fell in love with online (and later in person when it arrived) was originally going for $1,958 but I got it on sale for just $499.99! Smiley laugh
