Help! Eloping in Costa Rica in 30 days. Need a dress fast

Heather, on June 3, 2020 at 1:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 7

Hi All!

My fiance and I got engaged last year on July 4th at a waterfall in Costa Rica (it was a random smallish one we found, so don't ask me where it was lol.

Anyhow, we have decided to take the family back there for vacation again this summer and we are going to arrive there on July 3rd, so I said why don't we just get married on July 4th since it will be exactly one year and I think we're gonna do it. We aren't telling any friends or family and it's going to be a big surprise at a big party we have later.

I NEED A DRESS ASAP! I'm picky but I'm not. I'm picky about the fit, could care less about designer. Would love to keep cost as low as possible, preferably under $1,000, but I'm open to all suggestions.

I live in the Houston, Texas area. TIA!!!!!

A lot of the big popular boutiques are having huge sales on dresses across the country, have you gone in person to see what's available on the rack? I wouldn't order anything online unless you can get it in a couple of days.

I haven't gone in person yet. I was thinking about it all today and feeling overwhelmed and didn't know where to begin. I'm totally wedding-dress stupid lol. Do you have any suggestions on names of places to start with. I was going to try and make a few appointments at places asap, but I don't want to walk into somewhere that only has dresses $2000 & up or something like that and I know that can happen easily if I'm not paying attention lol. TIA!!

Unrelated to dresses, but Are the Costa Rica borders open again? We’re supposed to go on honeymoon there but are looking at back-up options.

I'd google the places in your area, check FB postings for those same shops. David's Bridal does not currently have the best reputation due to Covid, but I know they have been emailing me left and right about dresses under $100 available off the rack.

This sounds so adorable! I love this! Please post pictures afterwards!!

About the dress, I would try to find a local boutique that's open. Some charity boutiques will sell second-hand dresses that would keep the cost down while also supporting a charity. You can also be blunt with a salesperson at any boutique about your budget when you make the appointment and they can tell you if that's a good place to go with your budget.

David's Bridal doesn't have the best rep, but they have dresses that are decent quality and come quickly. Plus you could probably get your alterations done fast if you need them.

I’m not sure what the shipping timelines are right now but Lulus and BHLDN are great online stores to check
