Help Engagement Pictures

So I posted a few weeks ago, about my cousin practicing taking pics of people and did a small engagement shoot for us. Well we are taking our official engagement pictures next Saturday. My sister thinks this is a good time for me to do a hair/make up trial, since these are girls doing my hair and make up for the wedding. I know I want to do an updo or low bun for the wedding to show off the back of my dress. But no updo for out engagement pics (so it wont be a full hair trial, but I'm getting some hair extensions, which she will have to do for the wedding to do the updo). Also, I cannot do makeup to save my life, but I do want a little something for our pics. For our small shoot I did not have makeup on and did a wash and set on my hair. Did anyone go all out for their engagement pics? Hair, makeup, nails, lashes, etc.. or should I stick to the bare minimum lol. I know these pictures will last a lifetime and I will have to look at them forever. We have the option of taking our pics at either 8am (by this time it's already 75 degrees) or 6pm (by this time it could be anywhere between 85 to 100 degrees) and the location is about an hour away! We were sweating to death during our first shoot. So, FH wants to get it out the way at 8am, but I would like a little bit of make up. I'm not sure if we go at 6pm if I would sweat my makeup off or look very oily in all our pics lol. What have you all done or would you do in my case? I would have to get my makeup done at 5:30am since it's the opposite direction of our shoot (which I nor the MUA mind doing). TIA 💜

I got a full face of makeup (with lashes) and put my extensions in (clip ins) for our engagement shoot. Our photographers actually recommended professional makeup as it translates better on camera. I’ve included a couple pictures to highlight the makeup (both close and far shots). I plan on having my hair up for the wedding also, but had it down for the engagements, so I didn’t use the girl I hired for hair that day.

As for timing, I’m really partial to the golden light in the evening. We had our shoot from 6pm-8pm and got some gorgeous light shots. It was in the low 80s when we took them in June but didn’t have much issue with sweating. My makeup held up extremely well. Professional MUA will have good setting products to help with longevity.

I too got lash extensions and my makeup done and my nails done. I did do my own hair. I agree with PP it looks better on camera in my opinion but it’s up to you on how comfortable you feel. Also it might be a good way to test your makeup artist to see if the makeup holds. Make sure you take blotting sheets to get rid of oil if you want, they work wonders!

I went all out for our e-pics. I had airbrush makeup with lashes and my hair was styled into a thick side braid. I had my nails done but I always have them done though I did make sure they were freshly done for the photos.

As for the time, I think you should do it later in the day. This way you can get all dolled up and not worry about rushing. Just bring some translucent powder or blotting tissues to absorb any excess oil or sweat.

Hey Merline! I hope you excited to have your engagement shoot, I’m sure it will turn out beautiful!

You can totally have your hair trial on another day if you do not want to the same style as your wedding day. Are you comfortable doing your own hair for your engagement shoot?

Have you thought about what style shoot you would like? As Nicole mentioned, you will get beautiful golden light in the evening that will add so much to your photographs, if that it is a look you like.

Getting your makeup done will give you a great idea about how it will hold up for your wedding day. You can discuss your worry about it melting off in the heat with your MUA, but they should have some great setting products that will help keep it as it is. You can also bring some translucent powder to your shoot so you can add some touch-ups as you need.

Good idea, I will look for blotting sheets! Our wedding will be in February because I hate the summers in GA, and it'll be in the high 50s to low 60s then. We even had 2 weird days this year in February that were 78 and 83! If my makeup can last next Saturday in the heat then I know she'll do a great job in February! Thank you

Ugh I love your pic! I wish it snowed down here. Sometimes it makes me miss NJ. I really wanted fall pictures but our schedule and the photographers schedule just dont match up. I agree with the evening time. Although my MUA said 5am was not a problem for her, but it was a small problem for me since I have to go to her lol. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! We went to where the snow was at. We live in Northern California not too far from Tahoe so all we had to do was drive up the highway about an hour before it started snowing. It was so bizarre because it was in the 60s where we live.

Thank you I hope so! My hair will get done the day before since I'll have the day off! Whoo! Lol. She will probably keep the curls pinned up and I can take them out the morning of to let them drop. We are taking our engagement pics at Barry College. They have so many locations on their campus like water, fields, woods, bridges, chapels and beautiful buildings. So the golden light would make the pics so much better. The college is a one stop shop lol for engagement pics! I will look into translucent powder! Thank you. I've attached some pics of Barry College 😍

Get everything done. I’m just like you, don’t really know how to do makeup, but I went all out for my eshoot. I thought it was too heavy when I got it done, but my photographer said it was perfect. You need it heavy otherwise it doesn’t show up on camera well. You’re paying a lot for these captures, might as well do them right. By the way I loved my pictures when they came out. So glad I ended up getting my hair and makeup done professionally.
