So I am super frustrated. I booked the venue of my dreams and paid double other venues were costing because it has the bridal suite. I have 11 hours for the day. My photographer is saying he needs us to be ready by 12pm in order for him to do first look and have our ceremony start at 3pm.
This gives me, my 5 bridesmaids, my MIH and my mom 2 HOURS!!! to get ready. If I knew that, I would have saved money on the venue and NOT had the bridal suite dream in my head 😠
How long did it take for you and your party to get ready?

That's what I thought too. And when I was making my appointment I told them that not all the girls were 100% sure they wanted makeup done. She booked it as if all the girls would be getting it done because it's easier to take away than to add. She said a lot of girls aren't convinced when they walk into a place and are asking a stranger to do their makeup but after they see one of the other girls they're like oh okay that actually looks good...I want mine done.

Oh, okay. Yea, I wouldn’t do any later than 3:30 for a Sunday.
No, only 1 stylist. We only spent about 30 minutes doing our first look and photos together. After that we went ahead and took photos with our bridal party. Are you having a cocktail hour? You can easily take more photos after your ceremony. Your photographer doesn’t need 3 hours for first look photos. Have them revise their schedule to allow you more time to get ready.

Personally, I would get the extra hour. I know that if everyone around me were to be rushing and stressing, I would start stressing. And that's the last thing you need to be doing on your wedding day!

Thanks Meghan! I agree I think 3-3.5 hours getting ready with 2 stylists and doing first look 1.5-2 hours before the ceremony is plenty time

We didn't do makeup because frankly, I hate it. But we did hair and it was 5 of us and it took her maybe 2.5 hours (including touch-ups).

We had 8 of us all hair and makeup - we started at 9am and were done by 1:00 (mostly because my one BM has crazy thick long hair and she chose a crazy hair style that took forever). We headed to the rental house got ready took some pics and were out the door by 2:00 got to the venue at 2:15.

I'm a photographer and even though I don't shoot weddings myself I have a good understanding of how they work photography wise, and I'm struggling to understand why your photographer would need three hours between your first look and ceremony start time unless there was a lot of travel between destinations. That timeline just doesn't make sense to me. Even if you wanted to your first look shoot and all of your posed group shots pre-ceremony I just don't see how that would take anywhere close to three hours. Is 12pm the time the photographer wants to arrive and start shooting? It's not uncommon for photographers to take some "getting ready" shots (although they are usually at least somewhat staged) and detail shots of your dress, shoes, and other pre-wedding moments. If that's the plan you'll still be able to do some final touches during that time and won't need to be 100% dressed with hair and makeup perfect and ready to go right at 12pm. Definitely get in touch with your photographer and ask for a little more clarification on the timeline. They should be able to break down for you exactly what they are planning and how much time they need to get the shots you want.
