Help! Hair Won’t Grow Fast Enough!

Amanda, on July 28, 2021 at 12:35 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
I have been trying to grow out my hair in general, forever, but for the wedding probably since January 2020. It got pretty long during COVID since I wasn’t going anywhere/styling it and my hairdresser was of course shut down. I’ve been pretty blonde (nearly platinum at one point) the last four years and my hairdresser and I made the decision earlier this year that it was destroying my hair and I’m going to lay off the blonde leading up to the wedding. I’ll be transitioning away from highlights and to a lower maintenance balayage color after the wedding.

I rarely trim my hair because 1) I don’t always need one and 2) my hair shrinks so much even with just a trim. I’ve been using 90% of the Olaplex system which has helped my hair a lot, just not in terms of new growth. I’ve laid off the bleach, laid off the hot tools, take biotin daily and was taking collagen peptides but didn’t notice any difference. Is there anything I can do to make my hair grow quickly before our October 2021 wedding? Or should I bite the bullet and pay for hair extensions (never done before). I don’t want my hair to be crazy long and it’s already thick as hell, but it’s just not going to be long enough for me for what I want to do for the wedding for my hairstyle. Help!

The only thing I've ever tried that worked was Rice water! I got a too short bad haircut in January (a week before my FH proposed!! UGH) We set engagement photos for April and normally my hair grows about 1 inch every 4 months, so slow. When I started doing rice water twice a week It was growing an inch EACH MONTH. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me

Prenatal vitamins. Sounds odd but I know a few people who swear by them.

I don't know much about supplements you can take, but you should be getting your hair trimmed every 6 months or so if you want your hair to grow, especially if it's been damaged.

Omega-3's can help a lot! Daily multivitamins usually have them but fish oil tablets give you a mega dose. I had a friend who took fish oil tablets in high school to help with weak nails and she kept up with it because it helped her hair grow much faster. She is blond with thick hair that grew very slowly. I take fish oil tablets as well now and both my hair and nails are looking a LOT better than they used to.

Side note, they are proven to help with more than just humans hair/skin/nails. My vet recommended we give our dog omega-3 supplements when he was having skin issues. His coat is SUPER glossy and he is shedding a lot less now.

It sounds like you’re doing all the right thing. It sounds like extensions are they way to go.

How long were you taking biotin and collagen? It can take at least 6 weeks of taking them daily before seeing results. Are you drinking enough water? Do you have a healthy diet? Have you tried hair oiling? Do you deep condition for at least 30 minutes twice a month? Do you switch up your shampoo and conditioner after every bottle is empty so you don't get buildup/your hair doesn't become "immune" to it? Are you using the right heat protectants and stuff when you do use hot tools? Are you going to bed with wet hair?

Try using coconut oil! My hair honestly grows super fast already but I feel like it made my hair grow even faster! I used shampoo and conditioner that were already made with it

Hey, if you have to go with hair extensions, try a halo hair extension off of Amazon, I looked yesterday and found some for 10- 15$ and it slides on like a headband.

I would try the Sugar Bear Hair Gummies. My hair is slow growing as well and it's the only thing I've found to put the growing process into overdrive. We decided to set a wedding date a few weeks after I had my mid-back length hair chopped off to practically my jaw line 🥺 I have until April 2022 so I started on the vitamins again. I've been taking them for about 2 weeks and yesterday noticed the growth starting. It isn't extreme but noticeable by me. Highly recommend them plus they taste delicious!
