Help! Hawaii island!

Nola, on November 5, 2019 at 7:58 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
Hey y’all, so I need honeymoon destination help! My fiancé and I are planning to go to Hawaii, and you know how expensive that can get. I was wondering is anyone on here has been to Hawaii or is planning to go and if so what island are you choosing?? I want to find an island that isn’t busy! Also, how are you planning to save some money! We might cook our food!

    You'll love Hawaii!

We've been to Oahu and Kauai before. In fact, we're going to have our wedding/honeymoon in Kauai because it's just absolutely beautiful. If you want something calmer I think you should check out Kauai. If you want something more touristy, go for Oahu or Maui,

Kaua'i is the least "touristy" of the main islands (and still has plenty to do). It is the least crowded, the quietest, and the greenest. The best way to save money is to rent an AirBnb (or equivalent) with a kitchen, so you can grocery shop and fix your own meals. You will still find groceries expensive, but eating in most of the time will be cheaper than eating out for every meal.

Check out Costco's rates on rental cars. Get gas and some groceries at Costco on island. Check out the farmer's markets for produce.

There are lots of inexpensive activities (hiking, beaches, botanical garden, museums, bird sanctuary, etc.) to balance out pricier things (the tubing through the old sugar cane planation canals is ABSOLUTELY worth the money).

    Have fun!

We have been to Oahu and are getting married on the Big Island in March. I would suggest Kauai as well. We are planning to island hop for our honeymoon & Kauai will likely be our first stop. We plan to go to Costco to save some money. Depending upon the island there may be a swap meet type thing where you can go & buy a bunch of souvenirs for cheaper. On Oahu the one we went to was at the Aloha stadium. We got a bunch of shirts and things for our family members. Also, be sure to try Dave’s Hawaiian Ice Cream if you do go to an island with a store or restaurant that has them

I lived on Oahu for a few years. As PPs have stated... Kauai is definitely the quietest. If you still like a little bit of nightlife, Oahu has several hidden gems closer to Ewa and in the middle of the island. Definitely recommend stopping spending a day in Haleiwa if you do go to Oahu!

We spent 2 weeks in Maui for our honeymoon and loved it! Definitely less busy than the big Island even though it's a popular honeymoon destination. We're very active so I was drawn to the variety of outdoor activities. We splurged and stayed at a nice oceanfront villa, but you can totally enjoy the island in an airbnb with a kitchen as well.

We are getting married on the Big Island at Papa Kona Events. Looking at blogs from the other islands this one seemed the best budget wise and wasn’t as busy as Oahu or Maui. First thing I did was look up all the hotels nearby and surprisingly a good amount of them have washer/laundry and full kitchens so that us and all our guest don’t have to spend a lot out. There are quite a few vacation rentals as well. Some hotels also offer a package or deal that includes a gift card for groceries so that might be something to consider. I definitely spent two months looking at soooooo many different venues then hotels on each island and making tons of list in my wedding planning book before making a final decision. Another thing to consider is what activities you want to do and the cost for each one. At least most hiking trails are free and some farms have really inexpensive entry fees. But if you’re looking into a snorkel tour those seemed to be about $125 or up. I hope all goes well good luck planning and congratulations!!

I used to live in Hawaii! I've been to every island multiple times and Kaua'i is by far the best! It's not crowed, tons so stuff to see and do, and best of all, it's called the "garden island" because of how stunning the island is. I always recommend Kaua'i to friends and family looking for the traditional, none touristy visit to Hawaii.

We went to Maui & Oahu. Maui was a lot more laid back. We stayed at a hotel but there were a ton of rental houses where you could cook, I'd look into Kapalua Villas if you can. We did a lot more of "what should we do today?" walking around/random snorkeling/etc. on Maui than we did Oahu. In Oahu we were a lot more structured since we had plans to do ATV tours & brunches & snuba tours.
