Help! How to make really large reception space look smaller

Amanda, on August 11, 2013 at 11:21 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Our reception venue is a beautiful log cabin in Maine, but it's huge and we have a guest list of about 80. The room is about 72 ft x 108 ft and can seat up to 250 people. I'm worried the room will look too vacant, so what can I do to fill up the space? Are there any budget friendly ways to maybe partition a part of the room off?

The dinner reception tables are 12 ft. long wood tables and we plan on doing the dinner buffet style. I was also planning on using the very center of the room for the dance floor, though this won't be a huge dance crowd. The picture shows the room when they're in the middle of camper season.

Maybe a fabric partition and put the bar behind it?

It's very pretty! I agree using some fabric as a partition will probably be the easiest, and you can get some tulle pretty inexpensively.

If its in your budget, you could also rent some lounge seating and make a little seating area for guests to hang out in after dinner.

Make a DIY photo booth with PVC pipes, fabric, and a camera (or Ipad).

Make a wall with a trellis.

Buy some of those large indoor fake "trees" to go with the atmosphere of the room.

    Very Neat room.

Yes, I would say buy or create a back drop and cut off some of the room. If you have the extra cash maybe you can bring in some lounge furniture.

You can definitely partition it off with some fabric - can also do double duty as a back drop! you could hang some frames, get different types of fun fabric, or put christmas lights hanging behind the fabric and make an impromptu cell phone photobooth!
