Help! i booked a photographer i don't love anymore.

Riley, on March 17, 2022 at 10:44 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
Hi community! I rushed and booked out photographer way too soon without researching styles, or different photographers, award winning ones etc. And now I realized the style I want is darker and more contrast and hers is more bright. We already paid the deposit. What do i do?

Can you ask your current photographer if she's willing to edit your photos using a darker/more contrast style? Send her some inspiration pictures of the style you're looking for, and see what she says. Otherwise, if you are OK with losing your deposit, research other photographers until you find one that has a style you love and whose photos you love, and sign a contract/put a deposit down. Once you have a signed contract with a new photographer, then reach out to your original photographer to say that you have decided to go in a different direction with photography, and you will need to cancel your contract. I would wait until you have a new contract in place before cancelling your current contract.

Hi Lisa! I have mentioned that and asked her that exact question but she said that that is her style and brand and she can tweak it but it wont be completely different. My plan was to do the engagement shoot and see if those came out nice and then make a final decision after that, my fear is the more time passes, the less photographers will be available for my May 2023 wedding.

That makes sense! Waiting to see how the engagement photos turn out is a good idea, you might end up loving them! One thing you could do in the meantime is still look around for another photographer, and either pay to do a second engagement shoot with them too to see if you like those photos better, or ask them to put a soft hold on your date until after you get your engagement photos back from your original photographer. That way, if you decide that you want to go in a different direction, you'll already have a new photographer in mind. The more time that passes means that fewer photographers will be available if you do decide to switch, but if you get your engagement photos done soon, you should still have plenty of time of make a decision. If you decide to switch, I definitely wouldn't cancel your current contract until you have a new one locked in.

Thanks Lisa! Youre so helpful! I agree, doesnt hurt to ask around in the meantime. We planned to do our engagement shoot when the weather gets a bit warmer here in the northeast. But yes, I was going to wait and see if she could edit those photos the way that I liked. If not… might need to lost that deposit, those photos last forever! Idk what i was thinking, been beating myself up for it ever since.

One other thing too, have you asked your current photographer to see an example of a full album of a wedding she recently photographed? That would give you an idea of how your wedding photos might turn out, and while you're currently looking for a darker style, you might find that you prefer the way her wedding photos turned out instead (or you might decide that you prefer the other one). Doesn't hurt to sit down and look through examples of both styles!

Funny you say that because I should have done that before booking her but I booked her because she fit our budget (regrets). I looked on her site but I haven’t seen a full album yet, I’ll ask for that! Thank you Lisa!!!
