Help! I don't have a vision!

SDinSD, on December 29, 2015 at 1:23 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

I have been procrastinating since it's all so overwhelming. I never grew up dreaming of my wedding day and hence, I don't have a vision or even an idea of where to start. We know we want a casual, beach style wedding with flip flops and sundresses for our guests but I can't figure out what the rest looks like. I'm leaning towards either deep bougainvillea pinks/purples for 'tropical' or Caribbean blues for 'beachy'. To make it more difficult, we are on a strict budget so I can't just go out and buy things I see that I like because they have to be economical, AND I may not wear a traditional wedding dress. We have the venue (in San Diego) and it overlooks the ocean but can someone point me in a direction on where to start to find a theme/style/decor? Thanks in advance for your feedback! And happy new year!

Have you looked on pinterest? You can search for beach wedding and see pictures of how others have done it to get some inspiration.

    Budget

    venue

    guest list

Those are priority- and once I found my venue- I had a lot more drive on how to make it go.

I didn't grow up dreaming of my wedding day either- I grew up drawing my dream barn where I housed my many horses (I drew this down to the last spigot and electrical socket)... so- I can TOTALLY relate.

You don't need a theme necessarily- you already know you want casual and beach style- that's a pretty good start actually.

My biggest direction guide was "describe what you want in 3 words"- then I asked my FH to do the same. This gave us pretty good guidance and what over lapped and what didn't.

A casual, beach style wedding sounds like a vision to me. Start with budget and venues and go from there. It'll all fall into place. Congrats and happy planning!

Pinterest. Look up Beach theme and Tropical theme. Hopefully you'll see colors and ideas that will grab you and you can do on from there. With any decor ideas you see try to find economical ways of doing them.

    Tropical with bold, bright colors:

Pinterest was awesome for me. We also sat down and wrote out our favorite three things and two favorite colors. That helped a lot.

@Lauren, me too. I was thinking, 'Why the hell are you telling the wedding planning forum about it! Get to a hospital!'

Go to Wal Mart and buy a cork board. Then go on pinterest and search for beach and tropical weddings. Start putting inspiration photos on the corkboard. Remove ones that don't fit and add some that do. Pretty soon you'll have a vision. Smiley smile

Keep it simple. Pick a couple of colors and don't fall in love with flower walls and 'visions'.

    I need a drink. A big one.

You don't need a theme. You don't even need colors. All you need is an officiant, a license, and two people who want to get married. If you're not 'seeing it', maybe it's not what you want.

Thanks everyone! This is my first post and it's so nice to know there's a group of supportive (and funny!) people out there - so thanks for the advice AND the chuckles. I don't know why I didn't think of Pinterest, considering I love the Big P for recipes!

And to @MrsA, a huge thank you, because those two simple pics showed me that I really gravitated to the second one with the soft colors. Part of my conflict is that our venue seems more 'tropical' and I love purple but for some reason I'm gravitating towards the blues and seashells so I'm feeling a bit conflicted. My venue pic is below - see, tropical! But also beachy with the ocean...so I don't think I can go wrong either way.

P.S. I recognize that this is not a big problem to have in the world today but it's nice to know I'm not alone in wedding indecisiveness. :-D
