Help! Is this a scam?!

I received an e-mail from WeddingWire telling my I'd won $2000 towards a Demetrios wedding dress. I did enter the contest; however, they are asking for my SSN on an affidavit. I attempted to contact Demetrios directly but the woman who would could verify is out of the office until Monday, which is...

I received an e-mail from WeddingWire telling my I'd won $2000 towards a Demetrios wedding dress. I did enter the contest; however, they are asking for my SSN on an affidavit. I attempted to contact Demetrios directly but the woman who would could verify is out of the office until Monday, which is the deadline for me to submit the form.

Has anyone heard of this??? Is it legit??

    @ToBe the contest is over. It ended August 5th. http://mktg.weddingwire.com/contests/thegreatgowngiveaway/TCs.html see... Says they would send out an email after August the 6th (with in 14 days) and then mentions the affidavit. I agree it would be helpful if Leeor could see this and shed some light for her.

    Although you have every reason to be leery, I don't think it is a scam.

    I did a search and there was a contest announced recently on both the WW and Demetrios FB page. If you hit "reply to" and it sends a message to a @weddingwire.com address (and it is spelled *correctly!*), you should be okay.

    At the very least, let them know that you are aware that you are the winner but would like to hold off on providing an SSN until you can verify authenticity. That way if you don't send the form in by Monday, you should at least be able to buy some time. It's a reasonable request.

    It's official it's not a scam!!

    In doing my research/leg work to determine if this was a scam I reached out to Demetrios from a phone number I located via their website. I spoke with one of their reps who was able to provide me with the name of the person I needed to speak to (the one who was out of town until next week). Demetrios then reached out to the person who contacted me from WW and when I spoke to the WW contact she was able to provide me with the names of the people with whom I spoke. I am so excited!

    Thank you WW and thank you everyone for all of your help/advice and quick responses! I hope I did not offend anyone with either WW or Demetrios but my fiance was actually a victim of an internet scam when planning his proposal, so I am pretty paranoid.

    I can't wait to go dress shopping!! woot woot!
