Help! Makeup Trial Disaster... need advice

rachelgonder, on June 17, 2019 at 2:57 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7

Hi! I need some advice. I had my hair and makeup trial done a week or so ago. The hair turned out great and was what I was looking for.

Makeup, however, was terrible. I was so unhappy and felt like I didn’t look like myself. She overdid my eyebrows (spent like 30 min of the 60 I had on my eyebrows...) I'm not an eyebrow person to begin with. And then she didn’t make my eyes nearly dark enough to pop. I felt like she put too much blush in places I wouldn’t put blush. I wanted a look that looks like what I typically do but a little darker for photos purposes. I very much so felt is was underdone...

Salon offered me a free retrial but the issue is it’s not really free bc I live 4 hours away and will have to give up my free time / wedding planning and prepping time to go back to the place... 8 hour trip in one day. Not really free.

Picture in navy top shows the trial. The other pictures are from a wedding I attended (pink dress) and my Bach party (white dress).

I have this internal debate going on of whether I want to stress about doing my own makeup on the day of the wedding OR give up my time, do another trial and have them do my makeup on day of wedding. Thoughts? Anyone else have this issue, or end up doing their own? Or anyone regret not having theirs done by a professional? TIA for all advice / tips, etc.

I think if you know how to do it best I’d just do it myself and do trails on myself to get it right. Else you might regret on how they do your makeup the day of. If you feel confident enough.

I think you will feel more confident if you do it yourself! That being said, I don’t think the trial makeup looked bad at all. You know your face better than anyone though! Your makeup from the wedding and bachelorette party were lovely!

Ok, the trial makeup isn't bad, it's just really subtle. I mean, you can barely tell you're wearing any makeup at all. So, I've always heard that for pictures, you should do a bit more on the eyes, to make them pop.

I like your makeup in the other two photos. You look really pretty. If it were me, I wouldn't waste 8 hours driving for another trial. If you are ok with doing your own, that's the way I would go at this point. If you need some tips, there are tons of video tutorials on You Tube, and also if you buy a certain amount of products at Ulta or Sephora, then a consultant will give you a makeover. I would at least go in to one of those stores to get some technical advice. I'm partial to Ulta, because my daughter worked there for a few years, but I know Sephora has experienced people also.

I think if there's a chance you will be unhappy with the makeup from the salon you should pass on it. You can always have another trial, but you don't seem sold on it. I think if it were me I would do it myself, knowing that I would be happier in the end!

This happened to me. Hated my first MUA so I went with another one, she luckily refunded me half the deposit, I have a new MUA trail next Monday. Can’t risk not being in love with your makeup

I'd watch youtube videos and play with your make up in your free time (I'm sure it's not too much though!). If you find you like your look more than what she did, I'd do it yourself. You'll save time and money in my opinion.
