help me cover these walls...ewww!!!!

flo's clone, on February 25, 2012 at 11:40 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

So we found a reception site, a fire hall yes but one within our price range and distance. So now we have to find a way to cover the walls. Ive seen people cover the walls with what seemed to be white table clothes before but what would I use, where do I get it? Below are pics. Not looking to spend more to cover the walls than we spent renting it! Which is $200.

    Like this?

I would just get some cheap fabric from the nearest Rag Shop or fabric store, and then pin it up nice and neat!

I found 100" bunting that is 25 yds. long. Is that enough?

Please tell me you haven't signed a contract yet...

It's called pipe and drape. However, it is very expensive! You may be saving money using the fire hall, but if you don't like the walls- that isn't something you can change without considerable expense.

Think of it this way. Cheap fabric runs about $4/yd, and it about 2 1/2 feet wide. That room looks well over 30 feet wide and 40 feet long (it actually looks MUCH bigger). Being a hall, let's go with 12 foot ceilings (which I still think is low). That comes out to at least $16 per strip, and you'd need at least 28 of them. That's $448+, assuming you need no slack (which you do). And you haven't even figured out how to hang them yet, or addressed the ceiling...

I say take the cost of the hall as a blessing, and that you now have more money to spend to cover the walls and transform the space. You will not be able to cover the entire wall space for less than $200.

I think if you have a rustic/ country feel wedding and replace the tables with round ones you could make the walls work. Just my suggestion, I seen a girl on 4 weddings Canada who had a similar venu and she took on a country/ rustic/ outdoors wedding. It actually looked really nice

Oh and if you decide to work the walls you can always drape the ceiling. We're doing that as part of our decor an it looks beautiful!

I dont know how you feel about thrift stores and or garage sales... but I would look on there, there are a lot of people that get rid of extra fabric at those types of places.

You'll never find enough fabric cheaply enough to entirely cover the walls, even if you tack it up yourself. Having a pro do pipe and drape will be way more expensive. If it were in my neighborhood, would cost well over $1,000, including labor, hardware, etc, using standard pipe and drape.

I suppose you could hang streamers, or maybe tulle ribbons, but that's labor intensive and won't cover 100% anyway. If you REALLY hate those walls, keep looking.

I agree with Sam D., try to make the walls work with a certain theme and colors. I think a country/rustic theme would be nice; maybe an Asian theme with brown, green, and white colors, I think it would look nice if you could bring in some potted bamboo or palms to put in some of the corners maybe with LEDs to light them up; or maybe go for a 1960s kitschy/fun sort of thing from when wood paneling was in.

200 hundred seems high to me for a fire hall. My venue is called Quality of Working Life bulding which is through the corrections faucility. Its is only costing me 100 for the day and 75 for any days after which I will rent the day before the day of and the day after. With a 300 dollar deposit which you get back if the place is cleaned up after. Its a rather large bulding with a humungous yard and is secluded from other buildings and houses. I agree the walls look very gloomy and boring and ugly. And it would be hard to cover them without a lot of money. Good luck with your search.

I would not try to cover up the walls. Instead, look for decor that draws attention to the center of the room--centerpieces, lighting, or whatever. That way, the walls will just fade into the background.

I would spend the total $400 on a different place, as if you take the time to cover the walls, you'd have to do it well and at that point, you're better off just picking a different location.

How about if do don't cover the whole walls, just get some drapes/ fabric to a similar color that goes with your theme,(not completely white, maybe off white or cream) and just do sections, rent some lights, to create more drama, that way your walls don't look completely empty or covered, something like this.. Sorry I can't find the exact picture of what I'm trying to say LOL, but something like that, but instead of the big pillars it would be just your walls..
