help Me!!! Vintage party theme wedding

Jacqui, on February 6, 2021 at 4:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hello

My wedding is in May(aft being postponed..from 2020)and initially I wanted a pasta station...I know my wedding is tea party theme..BUT I DO NOT WANT TO SERVE "traditional tea party food" We both love grilled food, so I was thinking BBQ(yum)but my decor( that I purchased in 2019 for my 2020 wedding) is very vintage( serving trays, tea pots, crystal and pearls) will the BBQ clash w my classy vintage decor? Should I do more of a "southern menu"...I googled african American tea room and they used to serve chicken and waffles

I don't think so. You can serve bbq with forks. Be aware it doesn't appeal to everyone but no single food does.

I agree with Michelle. You can “dress” up BBQ based on what you serve. Try to avoid foods you’d eat with your hands (so no ribs and chicken) and look at serving things such sliced or pulled pork, pulled chicken or brisket.

You can serve a boneless chicken breast covered in bbq sauce or boneless chicken fried chicken with gravy. But nothing you eat with your hands to avoid messes.

Also take a look on Google or Yelp for catering menus in your area to give an idea of what you want to serve. Any decent caterer worth their salt will be able to recreate what you ask for with no issues

I think it would be fun, being elegant and refined in tableware, for good old down home type cooking!
Way further north, in Northern New England, in my growing up years ( I'm 40), and in my parents, even on very dressy ( but not tux and ballgown) occasions, we would not forgo our favorite boiled lobster and crab, and fresh corn. We just limited what was served to claws and tail, clipped from the body, cut and drained but staying warm in the shell. And whether at a huge party, or a home size 12-20, always the best china, because that was the only china with an extra large plate option, and metal charger, and condiment jars at every place for dipping, one in butter, usually a sauce choice too. And the ridiculous number of tiny utensils in full sets of elegant flatware . and tools and a dish so those serving had someone cutting kernels off boiled corn , into a bowl for each person. Where but in the best china set do you have hinged crystal tongs and crab forks and little covered bowls for every place except from Victorian tea and dinner sets? Or metalware for serving the lobster and crabs baked and stuffed to those too afraid to risk clothes to dripping or greasy things?
Or two sizes of cloth napkins, and finger bowls for each? The only time most of us actually used every item in a very fancy china or old silver flatware, linen warmers for rolls and corn bread , and still dainty dishes for pie or cobbler , not just cake and ice cream. I cannot believe Southern style barbecue, eaten with utensils, did not make it to the finest set tables in what we call Vintage style.
