Help!!! My wedding venue won't allow tape, tacks, etc

Ashley, on June 9, 2017 at 9:54 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

Hey everyone! I just double checked my venue's lease agreement and there is section regarding decorations that's just blowing my mind. My venue is historical and doesn't allow the use of nails, tacks, tape, putty, or commands strips/hooks for decorating! I can understand the tape, nails, and putty, but I have no idea how to decorate without the command hooks. They recommended using fishing line, lace and ribbon to aid in decorating but I honestly have no idea how to decorate or what else to use. I'd appreciate any suggestions that anyone has!!!

What kind of decor are you planning on hanging?

My mom decorated for a wedding and the groom worked for this company. I can't remember exactly how the tape works, but it doesn't stick to the walls and won't ruin anything. Ask if your venue has used it before.

We'll most likely try hang fairy lights/white Christmas lights and I want to hang tulle or something like it like in the picture here.

That's fairly common for historic venues - you can use easles to prop up signs and the fishing wire is a great idea for hanging things as it is fairly sturdy. I would go over all the decorations and ideas you have with the venue coordinator. They probably deal with this all the time and will be able to assist you with answers to specific questions especially because they will have the experience and insight for that specific property

It's a wood ceiling. This is a picture of the venue.

I am sure the venue has a coordinator. Tell them what you are planning to do and ask them how they recommend you do it. It's possible they may not allow you to add any electrical décor other than battery operated items due to the historical nature of the venue, but it's better to ask them now before you buy anything.

Why would you cover that ceiling?! That is gorgeous! No need to "cover" that up - that's a piece of craftmanship.

My venue suggested zip ties in lieu of tape, tacks, nails, etc.

I work at an historic museum and we don't allow any of that either. The good thing about most historic venues (yours included) is that the space itself is beautiful. Other than a few flowers, maybe, you really don't need more decorations.

I agree that you shouldn't put anything on the ceiling. It's beautiful!

Thanks so much everyone! I think instead of doing the ceiling, I'll just wrap it around the columns. I just didn't want it looking too bare!

I think flowers is all you need. Less is more! I agree on that ceiling...do not cover it up.

I honestly don't think that you should cover either the ceiling or the columns. Craftsmanship that beautiful should be enjoyed. All you need is some candles and possibly some flowers, and it will look amazing and romantic.

Such a pretty building! I would just rely on uplighting instead of drapery.
