Hi!
I would immensely appreciate some input on my first fitting experience. This was my first time ever working with a seamstress, and I feel very uneasy about it.
I went to an alterations place, and when the lady started fitting my dress, without asking me what I wanted beyond me telling her I wanted it taken in, I watched in a bit of horror as she started pinning my dress with a huge safety pin.
She didn’t have me hold the dress up where it should be placed or clip it or anything. The dress is a size 10 ball gown which I needed taken in significantly at the waist. She pinned the top of the bodice around the chest and asked me if it was okay. I had the feeling she thought that was all she needed to do. That one pin seemed to change the entire shape of my dress to hang straight down instead of complimenting the sweetheart neckline. I didn’t feel the support of the boning from the waist like what it was clipped.
I then explained to her and hoisted my dress up higher that I need the waist taken in. She placed another pin, then moved it. When she went to move it again, she told me there was a small hole in my brand new dress. This lady pinned and re-pinned my dress with these oversized safety pins, moving the ones she had placed in the dress.
Is this normal? Should I go back and get my dress before they work on it?
My main concerns are the silhouette of the top is going to be changed entirely. When they clip the dress on you, they pull it from the back, but she took all of the slack by pinning the sides. Based on the photos of the dress is this a valid concern?
The other concern is that now there will definitely be holes in the dress from where she pinned it. I don’t know what to do I already
feel like my dress is ruined.
I would appreciate some advice. I’m due to pickup my dress in 2 months. That’s a lot of time to worry about it.
Thank you so much in advance!
