Help!!! Need advise. Paved diamond ring band will scratch single solitaire engagement ring?

Karen, on March 6, 2018 at 9:29 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

Hello! I ordered paved diamond wedding ring (Luna 13 stone 1/3 carat from Blue Nile) to go with my single 1.2 carat solitaire diamond ring. Both are in Platinum. I just heard that paved diamond can scratch the prongs of the engagement ring, and will loosen the engagement ring diamond over the years. My engagement ring height is not very high (just about 1mm height from the root of the prong to the base of the ring). The height of the wedding band is 2.1mm so I think the top of the diamonds on the wedding will touch the e-ring prongs, and will scratch the prongs. Has anyone had this issue before? I was searching for paved wedding ring thats under 1mm height, but thats very difficult.. Should I not get paved wedding band?

My engagement ring is eerily similar to yours. I also picked a pave wedding band and never heard about the issues of it scratching the prongs. Maybe if you solder them together it will keep it from moving and scratching your engagement ring?

It seems like there is a potential for the prongs to scratch/bump against the base of the prongs on your ring. But It doesn't it matter? Rings are to wear and get worn.

Platinum is a very strong metal so there would have to be a lot of rubbing.. did you talk to your jeweler about your concerns?

PS. it's Pavé and it's pronounced "pah-vay" Smiley smile

I've seen tons of pave bands with solitaires that wear off prongs. Can you post a picture of both of them on?

There are hundreds of things that can go wrong with a ring. If there is heavy wear, you could also knock the tiny diamonds out of the band.

Pave is one one of the most delicate settings so just remember this when you pick a band.
