Help! Need ideas decorating a VERY DULL fellowship hall building for reception!

Stephanie , on May 21, 2016 at 8:24 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

For budget and convenience reasons my fiance and I are choosing to have our wedding ceremony and reception at our church. The church sanctuary for the ceremony is lovely and traditional look BUT the church's new fellowship hall is SO boring and plain looking. I'm sure there are ways to make it look lovely but on a budget I just can't figure out how to make the place look lovely for our celebration. The floors are bare and unadorned.. so are the walls and everything about it, because it's new and the church has not finished embellishing it. It can fit 400 people but we won't even have half of that. Our wedding is in 3 weeks. Can anyone help me with ideas? Our theme is shabby chic vintage..I have some lanterns, mirrors and ladder and am about to buy some sheer fabric to drape around. Normally lights make ANYthing dressier but our event is at 2pm so that won't really work. If I had it to do over I'd plan it for later int he day. Any thoughts? Will anyone care how plain it'll be?

I wouldn't stress over plain- it's not ugly by any means! Draping fabric and hanging some string lights in key areas can help ( like behind the cake table, or your table, etc). DIY ribbon banners would look lovely too if you had the time, but not sure at 3 weeks out. Put the focus on your table decorations and people won't even notice how plain the walls are. Smiley smile

Color lighting (same color or color changing) can add so much to a space!

Once you move in chairs and tables with cloths, place settings, and centerpieces no one will notice the walls/ceiling.
