Help! Need table linen advice

Talea, on November 20, 2015 at 2:58 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

My colors are fushia, gold and ivory and I am having such a hard time deciding what color my tablecloths, runners, and chair covers should be. I'm so indecisive when it comes to this. Should I go with fushia cloths, ivory cloths or plain old white cloths and should my chair covers be same color as cloth. Oh the struggles...Lol!

Ivory table linens with gold & fuschia centerpieces and table accents would really make the centerpieces/accents pop! Do you have to cover the chairs?

What color are you centerpieces? I was originally going to do ivory table linens, but realized my floral centerpieces (mostly white) would pop more on a contrasting tablecloth.

@Minnemiska I don't like the chairs that are provided so I want them covered. My centerpieces are mostly gold and fushia @Jessi. I also have some glass vases that I want to use somehow.

I think that ivory tablecloths, a gold runner and fuchsia accents would be nice.

How many tables do you have? what's your venue like...there's so many questions that can decide what direction to go in.

If your centerpieces are fuchsia and gold, then I would stick to ivory table cloths with gold runner and the fuchsia centerpieces.

Personally, I would make the chair covers the same color as the runner or the centerpiece. So maybe fuchsia, but then again, I don't know what a whole room of fuchsia chair covers would look like/

If you are doing the ivory table linens, either ivory or gold chair covers would be more elegant, in my opinion. maybe patterned tablecloths (e.g., lace or floral?) to add an additional element?

I guess the other important thing to consider is what kind of overall vibe you're going for. You could do several different combinations with just these 3 colors, and all of them would be beautiful but each would provide a slightly different feel to your reception space.

My personal preference would be for ivory linen and gold runner, but if you want something bold, the fuschia linens would be really fun.

Thank you guys for your comments. I will have around 40 tables both round and long. I think I am leaning more toward the ivory tablecloths. It's just a matter of me getting the right color runner, chair cover, and chair sash combination. Centerpieces will be a mix of fushia and cream colored flowers. I have some gold pieces but I think I will use them on the head tables.

Talea, there are so many amazing gorgeous options for styling a wedding with your color palette!

As a professional designer for a linen company, I have a few insights for you:

    • If ivory is one of your specific colors, I'm glad you're leaning toward using ivory instead of plain white. Ivory is a very common color, you definitely don't have to compromise!

    • Depending on the look you're trying to create, you aren't necessarily limited to ivory/white linens as your base linen or chair cover. If you are open to a bolder color statement, a solid Fuchsia tablecloth on a head table or buffet table is a beautiful option for coordinating your color palette.

    • Consider a gold sash pin on a Fuchsia chair sash as an accent to bring the gold element to your decor. Another option is to combine a chair sash in one color (gold or fuchsia) with a chair band in the opposite color. You could also find a sash tie that uses two sashes and choose a sash in each color.

    • Don't feel limited to just combinations of colorful table runners over base linens, adding matching overlays to cover a cake table or a head table will create a more finished result.

    • I love the idea of the gold pieces on your head table. You could try to add more gold accents throughout your centerpieces by incorporating gold brooches/sash pins into your flower centerpieces by having the pin secure a ribbon around the vase or bowl holding the flowers. You can also add gold by simply sitting your centerpieces on top of gold charger plates.

There a ton of inspiration photos and how-tos on Pinterest and youtube if you need ideas for tying chair sashes or working charger plates into centerpieces.

Let me know if I can be any further assistance in helping you strategize your wedding decor.

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I'm a fan of neutral linens, so I'd go with ivory tablecloths. You can add color or sparkle with napkins and runners.

Are you buying or renting? Ivory / neutral colored items will be much easier to resell! Also, I'd go for colored overlays/runners (I'm partial to overlays personally). I think fuschia or gold cloths and covers will look like too much.

Thanks Kara. That helped me tremendously! I am probably going to just buy the linens because from my research I found that renting them is either around the same cost or even more!

Glad I could help you out!

You are SO right about the cost of buying being equally to or cheaper than renting. I actually wrote a feature about how to save money by buying linens from a wholesale linen supply company then tips for successfully reselling them. Linens are one of your only wedding expenses you can count on making any money back on after your wedding.

My email address is ****.*@********.*** if you want to chat about any other decor options or tips for resale. Smiley smile
