Help! Plastic tablecloths?!

LoveYouMoore, on February 14, 2016 at 3:45 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 44

My fiancé is adamant about us using plastic table cloths for the wedding reception. Our reception hall is tiny at the church long white rectangle tables. I hate the venue but it is really all we could afford. We are college age 23/25 and paying for almost everything. We have a photgrapher and Dj and caterer. I understand he wants to go cheap because we can't afford much but I really don't want the wedding to be tacky. Has anyone used plastic tablecloths? What is your opinion? Renting cost as much as buying so that isn't an option. Thanks!

The company we're renting ours from (BBJ linens - you pick what you need online and they ship it to you before the wedding, you return it once you're done) rents 72x120 rectangle linens in any color of their "classic" solid fabrics for $9.70 a pop. Obviously more than plastic, but they look WAY nicer and its a lot cheaper than buying.

Don't use plastic... This is your wedding day. Search all over the Internet for cheap cloth tablecloths, I'm sure there is something out there in your budget.

Ugh- cut something out- like most of your guests- get married and take your family to dinner.

With only 12-15 people you can take people to a nice dinner for like 12-1500$

no plastic- no cheap silver wear- no cheap anything.

Our caterer is throwing in table clothes and cloth napkins for free.... ask around. I would also check out resale shops for brides

I get that they feel cheap. But are your guests going to remember spending the evening having fun with you and your hubby or are they going to remember the plastic tablecloths?

I probably have an unpopular opinion here, but as another bride who is foregoing the fancy reception hall in lieu of something more affordable, don't let a small detail let you lose sight of why you are having a wedding in the first place. You are starting a marriage.

My next suggestion is to talk to someone at the church. Ours has a supply of plain white cloth tablecloths, which I am planning on using for the wedding. Maybe your church has some stored away for nice occasions and would be more than happy to let you use them.

I bought my rectangular linen tablecloths from www.linentablecloth.com for SO cheap.

Check out their prices. You're right, plastic will look tacky.

Don't do plastic. A cloth tablecloth actually becomes part of your decor; a plastic tablecloth is a tablecover. You can usually rent rectangles (easier than buying them frankly) for 10 bucks or under. So even with 100ish people, you're talking about maybe 100.00. It's well worth it.

Some churches have nice linen clothes. Ask to see if they do and if you could use them.

They make things called "linen-like" tablecloths. It kind of feels like a paper towel but it looks like fabric ... That'd be something in-between real linen and fabric! If I wasn't on my phone I would look it up for you ...

Try looking at yard sales and Goodwill. You never know, you might get lucky and find a good deal.

Renting is not expensive at all and I think it is definitely worth the money. That is something your guests WILL notice.

If you are considering plastic table clothes it sounds like you are on a very tight budget. Consider having your wedding earlier in the day and hosting a cake and punch reception....

Yard/estate sales and goodwill. I bet you can find them for less then renting with the possibility of reselling some.

I agree that linen tablecloths are a must for an event like a wedding. Otherwise, it will look like a kids birthday. You've been given some really great, cheap options! Also, you can resell them easily after the wedding if you choose white, and recoup your costs!
