My fiancé is adamant about us using plastic table cloths for the wedding reception. Our reception hall is tiny at the church long white rectangle tables. I hate the venue but it is really all we could afford. We are college age 23/25 and paying for almost everything. We have a photgrapher and Dj and caterer. I understand he wants to go cheap because we can't afford much but I really don't want the wedding to be tacky. Has anyone used plastic tablecloths? What is your opinion? Renting cost as much as buying so that isn't an option. Thanks!

Also, please change your avatar to something other than the rings! They are associated with spam/trolls.

    1. Check with your church -- they may have cloth tablecloths.

    2. Check yard sales and thrift shops. You'll end up a mixture, but tell people you want an eclectic look.

    3. Look at resale sites -- other brides will be selling what they purchased.

    4. I bought one of those linen-like paper tablecloths for a party. It looked like moire fabric and was a very pretty color. But, it probably cost as much as renting a fabric one.

    5. Rent tablecloths.

I know I'd regret it. My fiancé says that EVERY wedding reception he has been to has had plastic table cloths. I have no idea what type of wedding reception he has been to but every one I have been to it has always been cloth. This is the ONLY thing that has been causing a lot of fights. We haven't fought about anything else. He is basically paying for everything so I feel like I have to go with this choice. Our budget is about $6,000. We have the caterer so far, the photographer ($1,500, my wedding dress ($1,000). The church will cost us ($700) but the hall is only $125 to rent. His Tux is free from Savvi because of his other groomsmen. So that basically leaves the decorations and DJ left.

I have been to many weddings with plastic table clothes, It was common in my huge family. That being said, cloth looks nicer. Check your local facebook pages, I am from St. Louis and there is a page specific to this area. Lots of brides selling stuff cheap on there. Also check Craigslist, same thing there with brides trying to sell stuff off. Good Luck

I was just recently at my goodwill, and they had so many tablecloths for $2-3 each it was unreal. If you are willing to mix/match, you can find some really nice ones!

Ugg, just no to the plastic. I can't believe he is adamant about this. I would just go buy cloth ones myself. Goodwill is a good idea or the website Niki mentioned.

I'd check out Goodwill. I did that for our Halloween party and surprisingly found a lot of what I needed for less than $20.

I'd also check out consignment shops, estate sales and garage sales (especially any of the big ones like through churches or big neighborhood ones).

If you have to plastic table cloths- I just wouldn't use any at all. Plastic just seems tacky. But what I've heard about buying them online is that they still need to be pressed for the wedding?

If it is going to make you unhappy (though it sounds like the venue is already doing that) use fabric...check online, check thrift stores, if not make your own...it will be a little cheaper than buying linens, but probably not as cheap as renting. I would also double check with your caterer...they really should have linens that you can add to your total cost with them, if not I would question their exp.

Personally, I'm the type of person once someone says I can't have something I go out and get it on my own. Buying the tablecloths are not gonna break the budget.

Try http://ruffledblog.com/recycle-your-wedding/category/reception. I have seen rectangular ones in the past and I would recommend checking the site every few days. We found a set of 26 mason jars in our colors for less than $5 and you might find a good deal for tablecloths.

We bought ours from LinenTableCloth.com and similar places. By the time we bought them on sale, then resold them after the wedding, the net cost was probably less than plastic.

Oh, and you can change your avatar on your phone. You just have to use your browser instead of the app.

Websites to check (aside from others that have been mentioned.)

    www.tablelinendirect.com/index.html

ETA: Had the wrong pricing on the other website I posted so I removed it.
