Help! The venue changed the ceiling and it looks awful!!!

nicolet, on March 4, 2013 at 6:59 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

Okay, so the venue where we are having our reception changed the ceiling and I hate it! It used to be lovely, romantic, draped fabric, it was honestly one of the things I liked most about the place but now it's smooth, white, and tent looking...I'm so dissapointed, it gives the room a totally different feel. What would you guys do? Demand a discount? Change the location? Rent fabric to put up again? Suck it up and deal with it? ugh...I hate my venue so much right now!

I vote discuss it with the venue and express your disappointment. Maybe they will change it back or offer a discount as this wasn't in your contract. Threaten to drop them and demand your deposit back as this changes the contract terms? Always be prepared to walk away if they do call your bluff though.

Perhaps ask them to foot the cost of hiring the fabric?

Are we talking ceremony or reception venue here?

If it is the ceremony then I agree with the other girls thretan to walk unless they help you in some way to give it the look you were going for.

If it is the reception I don't think it is as big of a deal. If you are having an evening wedding the lights will be dim and no one will be paying attention to the ceiling. However it still doesn't hurt to talk to them about getting the draping back. I just don't think it is worth jepordizing your venue this close to the date for a ceiling.

This is probably a war I would not fight. Does your contract say anything about them not being allowed to make improvements to their property?

This happened to us as well and we ended up paying to have their interior decorator do the ceiling in fabric colors of our choice. I think that the venue does this as a way to make some extra money. when we booked our venue there was just open ceiling but then they got this decorator who hung uo this gaud awful gold and red draping and we were having a cobalt blue and silver wedding totally did not make. When I found out I flipped and was told sorry unless you pay to have it redone. Talk to the venue but be prepared to hear they wont change it without a fee.

Most likely they will say the venue decoration in not in the contract and they wont buy that route

Depending on your contract they may not do anything. My venue did the same thing, i saw it when it wasn't quite finished , now it looks much better. But i can't imagine how the other couples felt about having their event while it was unfinished.

I saw on my contract that it protects them against any improvements or changes they do without notice and they are not responsible for anything because of it.

Maybe at least ask if they will be redoing the draping. Was it a permanent thing before or an extra that you were able to add on? Do they have other areas that are better maybe they can still honor your deposits and switch to a better area. But other than that i don't believe they'll do anything unless they didn't have changes included in the contract.

Honestly, a venue can change any of their decor, at any time. New carpeting, new furniture, new paint colors, etc.

Just go with it. It sounds as if is it a change that 99% of your guests will never notice, unless you point it out to them.

Scheeesh so now a bride has to have it stipulated in the contract that the venue will not make any drastic changes to it's appearance w/o first discussing it with us? I would be so ticked if one of the main reasons I fell in love with my venue was one they changed mid stream. I agree with the other ladies who are saying discuss it with the venue but be prepared to walk away if you choose to use that as a bargaining chip. Good luck

Honestly, your wedding is next month. Cancelling doesn't really make sense at this point so yes, you can try to talk to them about it, but I doubt they'll do anything. It might be something you just have to deal with.
