Help! Too big E-ring

Rebekah, on December 4, 2016 at 11:15 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 35

Help! So, I just got engaged last night (whoo hoo!) and apparently my fiancé has had the ring for over 3 months. Well, in the last few months I have lost a total of 50 pounds and my brand new engagement ring is too big. I'm terrified to lose it. I want to get it resized but I'm currently away at college and haven't been able to show my family or friends my ring so I want to keep it to be able to show everyone.

So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep my ring from falling off? I have tried those plastic snuggie things on my class ring that is also too big but they're just so uncomfortable and awkward.

Thanks in advance!

I mean there aren't really many options that don't involve taking it to get resized if you don't like the sizing bands. Do you have a ring that fits that you could wear above it? I'd take it to get resized before you start showing it to people, it's not that big of a deal.

Put it on a chain and wear it around your neck

Put another ring above it to hold it in place? Or you could just show it to people in its ring box until you get it sized.

Check with a local jeweler. Many local jewelers can size rings the same day.

You can dip in bottom end in hot glue (low temp) it won't hurt the metal and will easily peel off. Very temporary fix!

Ring guard from the jeweler. Takes 5 minutes to put on, will be under $10, and is usually some sort of bendable metal.

My e-ring was too big when FH proposed, too. I skyped with immediate family, to let them know the news and show them the ring, then took it to be resized ASAP. The sooner you take it in, the sooner you will get it back.

I had the opposite problem. It was way to small. (Family ring and his mom has tiny hands) I wore it around my neck and wore a different ring until we got it back.

My ering didn't fit to begin with and resizing would take a week. I got a really good picture and FH bought me a $10 clearance ring from JCPenney to wear for the week, so I had a temporary ring and the picture. It sucks but I'd recommend getting it resized right away! If you need an appraisal (for insurance purposes) maybe schedule both at once to limit time away from your ring!

Take it in and resize it, no reason to wait. Mine was way too small so I didn't have a choice. I just brought the box with when I showed people and took it in the resize it the next day. The longer you wait to resize it, the harder it'll be to let it go for a day or two. Do it before you're used to wearing it.

I'm losing weight myself, and waiting to resize until I've lost more. What I do is avoid "dangerous" activities with the ring. I take it off any time my hands will get wet, or when I'm working out, or when I go to bed. That being said, my ring does still stay on my finger if I dangle my hand vertically. If your ring is too big to even stay on like that, then you will need to seek other solutions.

Definitely get it sized ASAP and insure it immediately!

    Congrats on your engagement, btw!

Not sure what ring snuggie you've already tried but when i had this problem I got one on amazon that's spiral shaped that you wrap around the back of your ring, it works great and isn't uncomfortable IMO

My ring was also too big. It was his grandmothers and the original setting was gold. While we decided where to go for resetting, we stopped in a nearby jeweler. They said the metal ring guards can scratch the metal band. They had a plastic ring bumper they gave me that, while awkward, I got used to pretty quickly.

I got a ring guard for like $3 in Walmart! It's in the jewelry section. It's plastic and just goes around the band. No one sees it and it's comfortable.

My E-ring was wayyyy too big as well!! I found that one of those small clear plastic hair bands tied around the ring and then slipped on to my finger helped a lot! It stayed on and tight so my ring wasn't going anywhere! Plus since it was clear, I could hide it under the ring and no one would notice!

Where did he buy it from? I had to get my ring sized and it only took a few hours to get sized! We dropped it off, went out to eat and shopped a little and it was done when we got back.

I just wouldn't wear it until it fits perfectly

You don't want to risk it

Not sure about how easy it would be for you and your jeweler. My ring was resized within a day, so I only needed to part with it for a couple hours. Factors might be that it is white gold and it's a small family owned jewelry store. But I suggest calling! Smiley smile
