Help! Transportation From Wedding Venue to Hotel

Cierra, on September 29, 2021 at 7:45 AM Posted in Planning 2 5

Ok so my FH and I are getting married about three hours away from where we live. I have made two seperate hote blocks due to only being able to book so many rooms per hotel. The hotels are both about 10-15 minutes away from our ceremony and reception space. We will be having an open bar so I am considering having a shuttle service for taking the ones who have been drinking back to the hotel when the reception is over but I really don't want to spend the extra money! Couldn't they just carpool with someone who hasn't been drinking? Keep in mind that we are both 20 years old, just bought our first house, and have a $30,000 wedding ahead of us that we are paying for. That extra money could really be helpful somewhere else.. especially if only a few people would be using the shuttle. We would also have to have two shuttles since we have two different hotels.

While it is nice for couples to offer a shuttle, if you don't have the extra money to splurge I wouldn't worry about it. If I were a guest I would probably just get an uber or one of us would just decide to be DD. I think guests are able to take care of themselves.

For my cousins wedding most people were out of town and there was no shuttle, we all found a way there so I think it's acceptable.

I’d go for the shuttle. It makes things sooo much easier and if you’re spending that much on your wedding then you want people to have fun, relax and enjoy.

Have you checked into the cost for the shuttles? Many hotels provide them free of charge or at a very reduced rate for guests staying in the hotel. I would definitely check into them and see if you are able to swing it (especially if you know your guests are drinkers!) As PP noted, you are spending a significant amount of money on your wedding and you want your guests to be able to celebrate worry-free with you! If you find that you absolutely cannot afford the transportation, then it is what it is 🤷🏼‍♀️ Your guests will figure out how to get themselves to and from. Will the event be held in an area that has car services (Uber, lyft, taxis)?

First I’d check and see if either hotel offers them. Some do. Then I would look into school bus rental instead of shuttles. Most of our friends did school buses and saved a lot of money compared to the limo/shuttle companies in our area.

I opted to forgo shuttles for my wedding. Although I have two hotel blocks, guest are staying all over and many didn’t book in our blocks. I was worried that we’d spend thousands and only a few guest would use the shuttle.

I was at a wedding a few weekends ago and the couple provided two 50ish passenger buses as shuttles. I think 20 people max took the shuttles they were very empty. I appreciated the shuttle but I would have had just of a good time if I took an Uber.
As an alternative option we are providing a Lyft code for guest using Lyft events. Guest who use the code will save $25 per a ride and once our budget is exhausted the code will no longer work.
