Help! Transporting flowers in winter

Kee, on November 26, 2019 at 1:27 AM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 2
I live in Chicago and I’m getting married next month. Does anyone have any experience and advice with transporting flowers in winter. The florist I’m working with is willing to transport all flowers from church to venue, but at a hefty price. She said flowers can die easily in cold temps if not cared for properly. But from what I’m reading in google, it is not difficult to transport in winter - just have to avoid cold glass windows and heating vents.

Anyone have any first hand experience or know a florist?!

    Hi there, Kee!

This is a great question. Personally, I would trust the advice of a florist as I would be concerned that different flowers would react in different ways to the temperatures, but there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion. Especially if the transport fee is expensive!

If you were not going to use the florists transport service, who would you be asking to do it? Do you have a wedding planner or day of coordinator? They may have experience with this and know they best way to transport them.

Hey there it is really difficult to transport flowers in winter especially depending on the flowers you use. The best thing you can do if you do want to transport your own flowers is to keep your car very warm and keep the flowers covered. You can cover with a garbage bag or brown paper bag depending on what the florist has. Leave room so you don't crush the flowers and they can still breathe. Try to limit the amount of time the flowers are exposed to the winter weather when going between your car and location or vise versa.

I do agree with the other reply of keeping away from cold windows and drafty doors. If cold enough the flowers will wilt very quickly.
