Help: Ugly Banquet Chairs/Tablecloths and NO Budget!

Megaera, on May 19, 2015 at 3:04 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

Alright, ladies. I'm yet another bride with yet another "ugly chair" problem. My reception hall provides chairs and tables, however, the chairs provided are this ugly banquet chair with blue vinyl and black metal. My wedding colors? Red and gold! This is an extreme DIY wedding on a major budget, and I just can't justify the cost, but I don't want to ruin the look of everything just because my venue didn't have the brains to buy neutral chairs! To top it all off, the caterer rents tablecloths at an amazing rate, but they're 90" rounds on 60" tables! It just looks silly. If the chairs weren't so horrid I'm sure I could deal with the short cloths, but as it stands I just don't know what to do! Any suggestions? I can't afford to rent/purchase chair covers or new tablecloths that will fit, and just tying a sash on those things will NOT hide the blue. Picture attached.

Following! I wish I could switch chairs with you, my venue has red chairs and my color is blue. If you find a solution for this besides chair covers, take a picture for me!

Honestly there is a good chance people will not even notice the chairs. If you don't have the money for it I would just not worry about them. But if it bugs you that much wait till you get everything else taken care of then see what money you have left over to worry about the chairs.

I agree with Kayla. No one will even notice them.

Agree with Kayla and AmostMrs.S - especially since usually the lighting during the reception is low, it won't distract from your wedding.

My colors are Navy and Teal - venue chairs are a dark blush color. I said screw it. Plus, last wedding I went to with full length table linens AND chair covers - I couldn't get myself tucked in enough to be comfortable eating, the linens were overwhelming.

Are you, or your family a member at a church or an organization that frequently holds public events? They may have equally ugly, but neutral, chairs you could borrow for the evening.

At least they wouldn't be bright blue if you could manage that. Other wise I would stalk craigslist in "weddings for sale" a lot of June brides may be off loading some of the chair covers they bought, and you may luck into someone who is selling gold or red.

Otherwise - accept it and celebrate! Turn the lights down a little and no one will see blue. Remember that dress that was all over the internet? The blue/black gold/white one? Maybe your chairs will be like that!

If you can't afford anything then I honestly don't know how to help you. Longer tablecloths in your wedding colors would go a long way towards fixing this problem.

The only other thing I can think of if the blue is just not an option -

Since the chairs have those little holes at the top of the backs, maybe you can find an inexpensive cotton fabric, buy a yard and a half for each chair and just drape it through that hole to cover the backs and the cushions. You can use fabric glue around the edges to keep them from fraying.

    IDK just a thought.

I'm not sure people will notice the chairs. If they are tucked in a bit more, they won't be visible really. By the time people get to them to pull out their chair, they'll be looking at the table, or what's around them. I think with some nice centerpieces , and lighting, they'll be just fine.

I was having the same issue with the venue I thought I was going to choose. My mom made me try to list what all the chairs looked like at every wedding I have been to in the last few years... I couldn't even tell you what the chairs looked like at a wedding I went to a month ago. I totally see where you are coming from but looking at it from that perspective I didn't think it was that big of a deal anymore!

You can buy basic chair covers, sashes and table cloths on linentablecloths.com for so super cheap. Like... 50 cents per sash. a dollar per chair cover. They have a 30% off sale right now as well.

Have you looked into buying chair covers online? We purchased ours for the church because it had hideous yellow chairs, not pews. Was cheaper than buying. I think we paid just over $1 per chair cover and then we donated them to a local charity afterwards.

Find the budget or just accept it.

Are you already set in your wedding colors? The one thought that I have is to plan your decor around the chairs. I know how you feel with the unattractive chairs, I started a similar thread, however, I'm not sure what options that you have if you don't have it in your budget to cover or change them. Like many people have said, your guests won't be overly concerned with your chairs. Good luck!

The reality is, most people won't notice... but I get if that isn't okay with you, because little details like that drive me crazy, too! I'd say if you can stretch "no" budget to a tiny budget, try tulle. It comes in all different colors if you want - you could do red or gold - and just wrap it around the back part of the chair and if you have enough, leave some tails hanging down like a bow. It will help obscure the chairs, it will draw people's eyes to the pop of color. Or, if you can diy something with stuff around the house, try something decorative on the back of the chairs like fresh flowers from your yard in ribbon something... it wouldn't cover it, but if you give people something to focus on, it might distract them?!?!? Sorry I am not more help! (Try ruffled, com if you find a small budget - lots of resale stuff on there for good prices!)

I understand what your going through because our venue chair look just like that and they are ugly. I told my fiancé it's a must they will be cover with a chair cover and sashe but for the ceremony I don't know if we will have the money for to cover the chairs.

Maybe just buy table runners? These are pretty cheap and it will help draw attention away from the chairs.
