HELP ugly bar area in my reception space

alaynab123, on June 6, 2017 at 11:29 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

Okay I need help! I'm having my wedding on a budget, we were originally doing a backyard wedding but found a golf course that was cheaper!! The problem is, the carpets are green and the bar area is AWFUL. I need help on ideas that I could use to either draw away from the ugly bar, or decorate over it, same with the carpets!!! The view is beautiful and so budget friendly so we are excited about the space but it will bug me if we don't figure out a solution!!! If anyone has ideas or pictures of turning not the prettiest spaces into something beautiful for their day I would appreciate seeing it!

For the carpets, I feel like uplighting could be your friend! It will draw your guests' attention to the surrounding walls/view rather than down to the ugly carpets. You can add cute signs and some lights/candles around the bar as well, maybe even framed photos of you all from throughout your relationship?

Do you have a theme or anything that you're going with?

The view is beautiful!!!! It has a full deck that over looks the golf course so for what we're paying it's truly a steal but there are some things that need to be covered well on my day!!

Just remember, there will likely be people standing at the bar, it won't be so noticeable. And if you can walk out to the deck, with good weather, people will be there.

Like (BeachBride) mentioned uplights with a semi-dim room could help with the floors. On the bar area maybe go to a fabric store and grab some white basic fabric and wrap it around the bar. Or if you wanna really be frugal grab a flat twin XL bed sheet , cut the top folded piece off and hang it across the front . Maybe even jazz it up up a few votives on the sides .

    What is your colour scheme?

For the green carpet I would not fight against it with something too contrasty. I don't think it's too bad, but then again you could try to use green fillers in centerpieces or something tall and green.

Uplighting in the higher ceiling would help. "maybe" along the walls but if your windows are open just make sure the uplighting is only turned on when it's dark.

@kirstie819 Yes! are colors are Burgundy, nude, grey, and green!!! going for a very vintage organic feel. lots of greenery, minimal flowers, and we also can do whatever we want to the space so I need ideas of good places to put lighting or drapery!

I would do uplighting and regular decor like candles etc. The empty space looks worse to you than it will when its filled with ppl. like PP mentioned ppl will be standing around the bar so you will not see that.

We are definitely doing chair covers!! we have the option between white, or ivory and am definitely going with ivory but I don't love the satin sashes over chair covers look, so might end up wrapping burlap with a pop of color around the chairs.

Rest assured, nobody will notice the carpet at all.

I honestly don't think the bar looks that bad. It's not the snazziest but it's not as atrocious as I thought it would be. I wouldn't even bother. Maybe uplighting and string lights on the bar as others suggested but don't pour too much stress into this. It's a small detail that your guests won't really remember.

Cool, I asked because you mentioned above your colors . I could see burgundy chair covers with a green sash or ribbon to help tie in the green floors since those are your colors .

Hanging linen to cover the wood on the bar would make it look great. Everything else needs minimal sprucing in my opinion.

Draping always looks really pretty if it is in your budget. I know it can get pricey. I like the idea that someone had about adding linens to the front of the bar to cover the wood. It will be just perfect!

I honestly wouldn't worry about the bar. Spend that money on decor for the main area instead.
