Hey guys - really need some advice please!!! Sorry for the long post but really need some help.

My wedding is 6/5/21 in FL. We expect less than 100 guests. I reached out to my reception venue a few weeks just to check in and see if they have any regulations we have to follow for COVID and found out they have been closed for parties since we booked back in September!!! The manager told me they are closed at least through February for parties but they have a board meeting 1/26 to assess. It seems that they hold monthly board meetings to discuss the situation. I reached out on 1/27 to see the resolution from the meeting and she responded with “I spoke to our general manager and he said that the Board is probably not going to have us open for private parties through March at this point. We are hopeful for an April opening. I will keep in touch as I learn more.”

I’m really sooooo torn for many reasons and don’t know what to do because it’s up in the air with the venue and I’m not getting concrete answers. The thing I don’t understand is that most venues are open and operating at 100% capacity in FL (whether or not I think they should be doing that is a different story) but then this place just extended their shut down another month and doesn’t even give me a definitive answer as to how they’re basing their decisions, even though I asked. The space is big enough for 300 guests so we were told that social distancing the tables for 100 people should be no problem. I’m not sure what metrics they are looking for as to when they will decide to reopen since people are getting vaccinated now.

I LOVE this venue, it’s my dream venue and we got a good deal but its just really scary because if I wait out until April and they say they’re shut down, that will give me 2 months to see if I can replan EVERYTHING.

What would you do??? Do I just start now and plan it all over again to have something secure or do I wait?

I will do that but I’m worried that in order to book I would need to secure a deposit with the new venue. But I am definitely in full search mode now!

It’s a country club, so it sounds like they cancelled all their events. I’m also wondering if they had a COVID outbreak or something happen to force them to close down since all of FL is open.

I will be honest my last venue did the same thing with my fiancee and I, they were like, "There's a good chance that we won't be having weddings your date, but it's still too soon to say, so you should stick to wait and see."

My fiancee and I were like "haha Nope" and we spent our day off venue hunting for a new venue.
Be prepared to do the same if you want to keep your date.

My suggestion; call a bunch of venues and see if any are willing to soft hold your date. We had a few venues allow us to do this! We explained our situation and they agreed to “soft” hold the date without deposit. Basically this met if another inquiry came in and wanted to book, we’d have 24 hours to make a deposit or forgo the date. We had a few on hold just in case we got the call and weren’t ready to move. FYI I’d look for venues that have YOUR date available then you don’t have to worry about your venders availability.

I would honestly be looking into another venue. (Im in fl as well). Don’t wait until it’s 2 months before as it will be super stressful. Are they going to refund the money you paid? I would rather have a venue that can give me notice the second something is wrong and not a maybe, maybe not answer.

I agree - I hate the way they are handling the current situation and not being transparent at all! I just want some peace of mind. I will look into other venues for sure. Thanks!

Same thing happened to me with the exception that I have more time.

We are getting married on August 14 2021, we got engaged August 15 2019. As soon as we got engaged I started looking into venues. We decided on a club. I called them September 2019 to see if I could put a deposit down for our wedding date, they told us they wouldn't start accepting money till a year from the wedding. So August 2020 comes and we tried to put money down again and because of covid they told us to wait until January cause they didn't want to accept money if they weren't going to be able to open. So again in January we tried to put a deposit down and again they told us they didn't want to accept the money because they aren't doing events of any kind for right now, we asked when they would have a definite answer for our wedding, they told us they wouldn't know because how everything is going with covid. They told us we could just wait and see, but I finally had enough and told them no we aren't waiting anymore and then going to be forced at last minute to slap a wedding together in the backyard, we will go somewhere else for our wedding.
We ended up deciding at the end of January to just have the whole wedding in the backyard, since we live in the country and have a decent sized backyard. We didn't want to wait to long because we figured we need tables, tents, chairs, etc. And those things would eventually be booked up as well with other backyard weddings and outdoor dining.

    Hi Christin,

That is definitely a hard decision, but I think it is a great idea to look at other venues, just in case. I know how hard it is to give up the Venue of your dreams too! I really hope it works out, My wedding is in June too, surely things will be better by then.....right?!?! Here's hoping for a smooth, beautiful, and stress-free JUNE wedding :-)

    All the best

    -Angela!

If you're interested in Tallahassee, Tallahassee Garden Club is a beautiful venue for all occasions. We are open and would welcome inquiries.

Find a new place now! Availability might be harder the longer you wait

Sorry to hear that. I'm in Fl too and I would try and find another Venue now. You don't want to wait till they tell you and you only have 2 months to find something. Not sure if you're interested but take a look at the Crystal Ballroom, they have multiple locations and they are beautiful and reasonably priced and have done lots of upgrades since Covid (which are included). I'm having mine there in Daytona with less than 100 people. They hold up to 250 but not at full capacity yet which is fine with me. Hope this helps😉 Good luck!!!
