"You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.” - Gone with the wind

“To love or have loved, that is enough. Ask nothing further. There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life.” - Les Misérables

@kristin my original intention (still doing this, just venturing outside my reading comfort zone) is using quotes from my favorite books. I wanted it to be meaningful, but have looked on Goodreads.

“Books are a poor substitute for female companionship, but they are easier to find.”

? Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

Backstory: FH and I have known each other for 17 years, one night he posted that quote on FB. He posted within minutes of me finishing the book and setting the book aside on my night stand and picking up my phone. I commented on his post about the book, and we started talking about books, our lives, his journey into the dating world after his divorce. From that night on we have talked nearly every day since. Our friendship grew and eventually months later he asked me out. Now we are getting married. So I am very partial to that quote.

“To love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.”

? Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

This is another quote that stuck out to me while I was reading the book.

We had a reading in my wedding from A Farewell To Arms by Ernest Hemingway:

"At night, there was the feeling that we had come home, feeling no longer alone, waking in the night to find the other one there, and not gone away; all other things were unreal. We slept when we were tired and if we woke the other one woke too so one was not alone. Often a man wishes to be alone and a woman wishes to be alone too and if they love each other they are jealous of that in each other, but I can truly say we never felt that. We could feel alone when we were together, alone against the others. We were never lonely and never afraid when we were together."

As someone who is fairly familiar with most books that come along, I will say make sure the BOOK is good about love too. I seriously cringe when I go to weddings, or see FB posts where a book quote is taken out of context to be lovey and is really not a good representation of the central message the tale portrays. I hope this makes sense...

Swim makes a lot of sense. When you examine a great many of the relationships in books they are not healthy and yet we romanticism them. I personally cringe for this reason when people come on here saying they want a Great Gatsby themed wedding.

I'm a sucker for romane books, my books do have love (and I'm not talking Christian Grey kinda love). I completely understand needing it to be in context for the setting. Thank you so much for your input ladies.

Following this thread! Some great suggestions and I agree with the context being important. I read Gone With the Wind as a pre-teen (seriously, why did I?), which sort of set up a bad example for romantic love. Smiley smile @Elphaba, for some reason I'm better with the Wuthering Heights context than Gone With the Wind.

"Love is a passion for life shared with another person. You fall in love with a person who you think is wonderful. It's your deepest appreciation of the value of that individual, and that individual is a reflection of what you value most in life. Love, for sound reasons, can be one of life's greatest rewards." Author: Terry Goodkind. Book: Chainfire.

It's one of my favorite quotes of all time.

There truly is someone for everyone. They travel across oceans of time and the depths of heavenly dimensions to be you again. Your heart knows them; your head may interfere, but your heart knows. They take your hand for the first time and sends a jolt through every atom of your being. They look into y our eyes and you see a soul companion across centuries. Everything outside this moment loses importance. When you recognize each other, no volcano could erupt with more passion. And you will be reminded that you are together always, to the end of time.

"He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."

    -Emily Bronte

"She's mad but she's magic. There's no lie in her fire."

    - Charles Bukowski

And one that I truly believe in:

    -e.e. cummings
