Help! Wedding Dress Issues

Faith, on January 24, 2024 at 2:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Hi everyone! I'm slightly panicking. I bought this wedding dress mid-last year. This past weekend I had my mom come over and I tried it on.
It is tedious trying to get me into the dress but when i'm in it it doesn't feel too tight to where I feel like I can't breathe or anything but because it's bending I'm starting to think it is too tight. It is a used dressed originally $8.1k , but I got it for a little more than half off. I have a bigger bust than the former owner and I believe a slightly bigger waist.

Does anybody know exactly what I should do? My wedding is in 2 months. I really want it to fit right because the bending by the waist is bothering me and it's only on one side.Help! Wedding Dress Issues 1

The big "dent" in the side is from the boning bending inside the dress. I've had this happen multiple times with dresses and corset tops. When the boning is made with a flexible material, it will warp after being bent over & over again. The only way to fix it is going to be taking it to a seamstress and having the boning replaced. If it's currently made with plastic, you could also have it upgraded to metal to ensure it wouldn't bend again.

Go to a seamstress and have it let out some. It's too tight in the hips too, which is why it is wrinkling in that area.

The only thing to do is have the seamstress add a corset back instead of buttons/zipper. That will give you some leeway for making it more flexible.

You can make anything smaller but you can never can make it bigger because there is no extra fabric to work with, without completely altering the dress from scratch.

No offense, but this is absolutely not true. After years and years of dance and theatre costumes, plus alterations on over 20 BM/MOH dresses, I can tell you with 100% certainty you do NOT have to get a corset back put into this dress. And there are also ways to let dresses out (aka, "make it bigger") without starting the dress from scratch. Don't panic! Take the dress to a reputable seamstress (one that specializes in wedding or pageant dresses) and they will help you find a solution.

And congrats on getting the dress at such a good price!! It's a beautiful dress and it's going to look fabulous on you!!!
