Help! Where should our guests send our Gifts?

georgiabride2018, on November 18, 2017 at 4:12 PM Posted in Registry 0 8

My fiance and I live in an old apartment building in Los Angeles. Our door (like most apartments in los angeles) is outside. Mail and deliveries are dropped off in front of our door and anyone (residents and non residents of the neighborhood) can see our mail and deliveries and could steal them if they wanted to. We both work 9-5's so we're not home until late in the evenings. We're concerned about someone stealing our packages. I was considering getting a PO box and requesting that all deliveries were made to the box. However, it seems that PO boxes are only about 1 foot wide. Would the post office hold our deliveries? Does anyone have a suggestion? We don't have family here that would be able to accept our packages for us, so that's not an option.

Could either of you have them sent to your workplace?

If you get a PO box they should be able to hold boxes there and you just show them your ID to get them. From what you're describing that sounds like your best option

Like EngineerInLove suggested, we got a post office box at the nearest UPS store. Unlike the post office where you may only have access during business hours, at the UPS store we used, we had 24 hours access. You actually get a real address which means you will receive packages from all carriers.

You're in LA, not sure if your near DTLA, but there is a UPS store near the Staple Center on Flower. Not sure of their hours or if they're 24 hours, but you should consider them.

It's an awkward situation because you really can't tell your guests "If you want to give us a gift, here is where you should send it."

I would send the invitations with a return address of your choice where you can safely receive gifts- work, parents', PO Box etc..

Can you have them sent to a parent or other relatives house? I definitely wouldn't have them sent to an apartment building.

Do you have a friend nearby able to receive either at a house or apartment office? A few years back a military friend of mine was in transition and his wife hadn't moved down to Texas yet -- so they changed their registries to deliver to me. I piled them up and they came to pick up once they returned from their honeymoon and had a place to live!

I used to have a P.O. Box before I moved. So what they did when we had something that was to big to fit in the box, they stick a little yellow card in your mail box to tell you that you have a package. So you take that card bring it to the counter, they will ask what your box number is and they will go in the back and grab it for you and bring it up front to you.

Go old fashion and have them just bring it to the wedding?
