Hi! I want to send a nice invitation for our August wedding. My colors will be vibrant and happy fuschia and some orange for flowers. And I don’t want pastels colors. I need your help deciding. There is no need ever to match the colors of invitations to colors chosen for the wedding ceremony or reception. . . What is supposed to match: the formality of your invitation, by its appearance , should tell guests who open it, how formal or informal your wedding will be. For a very formal wedding, black tie or white tie, with formal plated dinner, and everything done in a formal way, usually has very plain, restrained, not colorful invitations. A border pattern that is engraved or embossed, possibly with silver or gold accents on a light neutral cardstock, is the greatest amount of design you usually see. A less formal wedding, clothes mostly suit jakets, cocktail or tea length dresses, still dressy, with either plated it buffet service, but less fancy China, glassware etc, often a theme or fun vibe, rather than stately and formal, is appropriate for a design that is not cartoonish, but may be colorful, as your flowers are, artistic, with information on a separate blank field, design in colors above, or in a border around the words. This kind, or one even less artistic, may be fun or indicate a theme, would be for more casual styles, casual though nice clothes, likely not suits, not gowns, though maybe blazers, or maxi dresses. For a barbecue, beach wedding, stations or buffet meals, informal decorations. . . . Color matching does not matter at all. Do it, not do it, whatever appeals to you. The only "SHOULD" in etiquette terms, is the formality of the invitation matches, and thus indicates to people without telling them, formality of their dress, of any meal service, and manners expected. And money and gifts are never mentioned, not even registry links, and nothing is said about guest clothing, except if black tie or white tie, except requirements set by the venue, or needed to keep you safe, or in accordance with the law.

I don’t think they’re tacky at all! I didn’t have lots of flowers specifically because I didn’t want FH to think they’re too feminine but ours still had some and he loves them! Here is what ours looked like.
Also, I like the first invitation best! I think it’s beautiful
