Help with decor that can be repurposed?

Kat, on December 12, 2021 at 10:52 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7
June 2022 bride here! I’m thinking about different decor for our reception. Welcome sign, seating chart, card box etc. and what’s really important for us is to make sure we can use these items as decor in our home after the wedding. I’m thinking using mirrors for the seating chart and welcome sign. And using a terrarium or bird cage for the card box. Are there any other ideas for decor that fits this description??

They aren’t popular because people prefer to purchase but look into rentals. They are cheaper in the long run because you don’t have to do the work yourself of repurposing or selling. And they choose not to factor in their time/sanity and labor at minimum wage per hour of doing all the extras of transporting the items, setup/tear down at the venue, steaming them for the wedding and cleanup of getting them ready to sell. Plus not everyone gets the money back that they are expecting. With rentals, someone else takes care of all of that for a set fee without the huge carbon footprint of purchased items.

Decor is a personal preference. Browse Pinterest to see what catches your eye and see what is available in your area. If you intend to keep everything, check places such as local craft or home decor stores that don’t have shipping charges: Joann, Michael’s, Burlington etc

For card boxes, I've seen people use mailboxes that they decorate, and then after the wedding, they use it as their mailbox at their home! Help with decor that can be repurposed? 3
For things like welcome signs/seating charts, you could get poster boards printed, and then put them in picture frames! The poster boards should be fairly cheap, and then you can reuse the frames to put your wedding photos in. Or, instead of poster board, you could also get adhesive words to stick on the glass in the frame, and put a solid color background in the frame. You could remove the letters after the wedding and reuse the frame. Mirrors work well too!

For centerpieces, you could incorporate candles that you can bring back home after the wedding and continue to use them, along with vases/mirrors/etc. You could put table numbers in mini picture frames and reuse the frames after the wedding. Or, you could do mismatched coffee mugs to put flowers in as centerpieces, and reuse the mugs at your home. Help with decor that can be repurposed? 5

For your guest book, there are so many options of things that you can use as home decor! A large wooden sign with everyone's signatures to hang up in your house, jenga pieces for everyone to sign and for you to use on game nights, puzzle pieces for everyone to sign, etc. Help with decor that can be repurposed? 7

I didn’t really repurpose any of our decor. I saved some chargers and candle sticks to use at holiday time, but the rest I tossed, donated, or sold. The theme of our wedding doesn’t match the theme at our home.
Our seating chart was a big cork board made of wine corks, which could be repurposed and hung and I was going to I just don’t have a spot for it. I think it’s great if you can repurpose it, but I wouldn’t drive my self crazy searching for items that could be used again.

Also, I searched for stuff at goodwill/thrift shops and discount retailers (Ross, Marshall’s, Burlington etc) that way I wasn’t out too much if I wasn’t able to sell it afterwards.

I used a big lantern as my card box. I plan on using it to put candles in and set next to a fireplace or outside my front door. Help with decor that can be repurposed? 8

That's a pretty great idea so that you can reuse those things!

my bff bought one of those chalkboard signs that you often times see outside of cafes so that she just wrote her own welcome sign on that and then she uses the chalkboard sign after the wedding for decor when she has events and whatever else
